The car is beyond sick. From what I understand, they got the chassis and did everything themselves.
I want a DCB sand car before I want a DCB boat. :D Boats are nice too!

I drug our boat over to DCB in July to say "HI" to Dave, hadn't seen him or Lynn for a 1 1/2 yrs. He came out to look at the re-done 935HP 565" single carb engine in the boat and he said "Hey come see what your Ford inspired me to have built"
Dave told me it makes 1,015 hp at 7,000. 565" inches w/carb. To answer your question: You don't need a computer to tune a carburetor. A screwdriver and a wrench will do . Dave said he wanted to turn the key and not worry about it.

He should have gone EFI. :D
:D He said "Lap tops at the desert are a pain in the ass"
It's a bad ass car ,but some yrs ago maybe 12 Dave built a turbo charged triple rotor (3) Mazda sand car. I think it made 900+ hp in a very light sand car. It sounded awesome and hauled ass.

looks nice, but they should stick to boats.
really, that thing probably couldnt even finish a race. It is too pretty to charge through the desert with, and trying to get 900+ hp to the ground is damn near impossible on something that light.
I would rather have a Kreger Fab class 1 buggy, or a GeiserBros or JimCo trophy truck.
but like is said, it does look nice.

First flood out run through the whoops and he will put EFI on it. If it actually sees the whoops.
To me some of these buggies are so nice...almost to nice but to each his own.

Someone made a joke...Dave's Custom Buggies....laugh, but he used to rig Eliminators......nothing to say he could not make some trick buggies and have a list of people waiting...

I'm guessing that's a rumor.
yeah i was talking to the owner of one of the cars but he was kind of a dick so i couldnt get that far with him but the car next to him i guess was a friend and he said that foose made the bodies for them. there was two of them one was 2 tone orange and a cream color and the other one was all black but they looked almost identical to the one daves got. beautiful tin work though

Seems like kind of a small job for a big name like Foose.
well for the right price i guess pretty intrequet (sp) work maybe they know him, or they were just lying but i do know foose will do design drawings maybe he does stuff like that in between riddler cars?probably not though.

Not a race car, it's a sand car and yes I would agree with you that 1,000 hp in the dirt or sand seems a bit excessive to me. But it's his money... he did mention that he wanted to try this with it though.:jawdrop:

A full body car like that will run $20,000-$25,000 from Emil or Jeff Davis. My buddy is having his car done by a guy in San Marcos for $15,000. It will be almost as sick as that, from the pictures I've seen and what I've heard about the guy's shop. My buddy is super OCD, I'm sure this guy is good.
ive seen Emils stuff before he is bad ass but i though maybe Marcel may have done it i know hes done some full bodied desert cars in between hot rods.

We do that new orange, DCB sales will go falt and we will pick up all the customers!
Also, insurance will be less than $1500/year.... Wait, the first 2 years of insurance is included with ever purchase and we will not bury it in the price of the boat either!!!!!
We will also own the insurance company that insures all of our customers so we can afford to give it away on a new purchase.
I have this all figured out and I know what red tape we have to go through for the insurance gig. No problem and nobody can compete with this program.
Then by next winter, we can have a bad ass sand car too!!!! However, I want DCB to build my sand car because it really is a sick car, better than the Racers I have seen.

We dont need Lavey's equipment.
I have a Rigid shop vac from Home depot. Tape on some saran wrap and suck out the air under with with the vac and what do you know... Vac bagged 'n all. I think if we use a Dyson vac, we can call it infusion or something.
Now, if you have the $10m, why are we building boats again? Damn, I already lost our direction!!!!!
New plan, take the $10m, and buy some safe bonds that earn around 6-7% and then use that money for our sand cars.

The sand dosen't really mess things up to bad, as for duning, i never see those RACER sand cars in the dunes, i only see those cars sitting at the hill, or sitting at the drags and occasionally "cruzing" around and i go to glamis once maybe twice a month, beautiful car though and is my favorite car out there minus the UFO body work.

The orange and cream car mentioned earlier in this thread was built by Wicked Sand Toys in Riverside. All the sand car co.'s are building big frames now for customers that want them. Most don't dune as good as standard frames due to weight but the "big is better" bug has hit the sand community. Thing is, in the sand, this theory is'nt always true.

Well 6% of $5mil is $300k, so that gets us the 2 cars. You need my bank info for the wire. By the way... that means I will manage the funds. You get to use the Dyson. :D
That will buy you the "parts" for two cars like that one. :jawdrop: But you'll have to put it together yourself. :(

We just hired 2 great riggers from a well respected east coast company, Boston Whaler. They can handle the job, so $150k per car in parts will cover it just fine.

Now that's just an "EWAG" ( educated wild ass guess) on my behalf, but I saw the car in the shop in July and man oh man. It has some trick shit on it and just like Dave's boat's, top of the line, first class all the way. :)

I am not surprised, Dave along with several other boat builders enjoys the dunes during the winter time. Dave from what I remember has a car built every season. I remember seeing another very nice Racer Sand Car he owned. It was only a matter of time before he starts building his own. As MBrown stated he has a great attention for detail and is a smart guy, why not build his own. Congrats to him, a very nice car indeed.

That is a very nice looking car. Looks like its going to be a bit on the heavy side though. Not a good duning car. One thing I dont get is the stereo systems in these. Put on some head sets, and hook an ipod up to them. You can talk and listen to music, all with less weight! I will still take a Funco.

Sidewinder at dunebuggy.com builds some nice bodied cars too.
this is from glamis dunes site
(Well my boss here at DCB (Daves Custom Boats)is getting ready to build his New Racer. This is what we do with our time after hours!!The car has been in the works for a little over a year now. It all depends on what you like to do out in the sand. Dave's Racer would leave me in the dust at the drags or on the hill. It's a work of art that will definitely draw a lot of attention anywhere it goes.
As for my car, I like to play out in the dunes, up, down, left, right, like a giant roller coaster. I've actually had to de-tune my motor to get the best ride for my style. It would be pretty hard to turn and slide the car with the front wheels in the air all the time.:D

Read the end of my post, apples and oranges is what I meant/
Anything I posted in here is in regards to MY opinion of the silliness of guys building 3-4k lb. cars to take to sand. The great thing about the U.S. is we can all do whatever we want. I'd say the same thing about a 42ft. Fountain cruising on the Strip as it IS similar in COMPARISON. Why people do it seems silly to me, but, they have the right,
And RIVERDAVE, god forbid LOWRIVER2 has an opinion/ LOL!

I dont know. In this example, Dave built a bad ass car. He purchased all of the components and assembled it to his liking and made it as wild or mild as he wanted it to be. I wouldn't call his a poser becuase his car is one of the nicest I have seen (and I look at a lot on other sites). I am way impressed at his and anyone's ability to assemble their own vehicle. In Dave's case, his attention to deail is amazingly impressive.
Paul Tracy built a bad ass Tatum this year. Monster actually sponsored him on it and is a new sponsor for him in his professional race car career. By the last 2 pages of this thread, Paul's car would be considered too heavy or overbuilt for the dunes, however that is the only place he takes it. He wont race it. The guy is used to driving 200 MPH, but if he wants a 1000 HP sand car to beat the hell out of, I wouldn't call him a poser.
I think it is different reasons for everyone. Someone may call my Rhino bad ass, while someone else will say I wasted my money on that turd. Regardless, I dont think it makes any less or more of anyone else.
There are so many boats on the lake that run race speeds, however they never race. People want it and I dont think it makes them a poser if they want something better than what they may have had before.

I kind of look at my boat the same way. Did I nee a 37' cruiser to go to the lake? Absolutely not. Am I trying to prove anything with it? Absolutley not, there are plenty of bigger boats out there, many of which are on Lake Pleasant. It is what I wanted to buy to make every second on the lake as comfortable as possible. For me, I can spend more time on the boat becuase it is more comfortable. When i can spend more time on it, the better relaxed I get. I just dont see the poser in that, and I say that becuase I do see it as overkill to put my boat on Havasu, but when on the water, I absolutely love every second of it.

No No No. Let me fix this. These cars are awesome and I am getting ready to step up to this level. More than 12 years ago, Dave built a 900+ hp 3 Rotor turbo-charged EFI Mazda sand car. If I remember correctly it only weighed about 1,250-1,300 lbs. so he knows more than a little about power to weight and weight in a sand car.(This is not his first Rodeo)
He didn't build it(this car) with the intention that it was going to be the fastest or the best handling, he built it to make him do this ":D " and I'm sure it will along with curling his toe's at the same time.;)

We had a friendly race with around 40 buggies, all different manufacturers the day before Jeff Seifert jumped the canal in his AG sandcar. 2 timed laps around a coned off course and he got smoked in the race, bottom 3rd I believe. Pulling off that canal jump took some big balls though. Not one other person in the race would even think about pulling off something like that.

Kind of like the guy with the Corvette in the left lane on the freeway only doing 62 in a 65?

This is not a race car, it is meant for recreation in the sand.
If you REALLY looked at the DCB car, all the components of it, chassis, hubs fuel cell etc, you would find it to be a SCORE legal class 1 car or damn near it minus the rear seats and the sick engine,,,FYI Ive driven with Dave and he's NO POSER! scared the shit out of me and I'm fearless

Well hello Dave,
You must be getting old, I seem to remember you were the best arm chair QB around this site, at least up till the last year when you got a girl and slowed down. You don't have anymore buildup to be all bent out of shape.
Ah c'mon now straight for the nuts? :D
I wasn't just talking about you, just in general.. It seems like no matter what is posted nowdayz it ain't good enough for the peanut gallery on here. If you raced the Indy 500, then everyone else on here has a buddy that won it.. LOL
That aside, your buddy still do the hitches on the side? I have a request for a square face instead of an oval. Probably a small amount like 5?
Thanks in advance "settled down honeybunch" guy/LOL
No problem on the hitches.. I'll hit him up tomorrow morning about them. :)

That thar is a WATTY! Jim Watkins build the BADDEST A$$ Engine I have ever seen. My buddy drives the #5 Super Late Model at Orange Show Speedway. He actually one both th 05 and 07 Championships with one of Watty's thumpers in it. I had the privledge of lashing the valves and tuning the carb on it. Let me tell you I don't doubt 1000 carb HP outta it.

Oh it's a legit 1,000+ HP. I think Dave told me 1,015, which I don't doubt. Our 565" makes 935 with less compression and with out the dry sump. And it has some very good heads on it . Did you notice the sheet metal spider intake manifold? Pretty trick :)

Beautiful car, it should perfect for your typical rich pussy with a little dick who will never drive it to its full capability.
haha blow some more ignorant opinions out yer ass... Too F-ing funny, you dont know the first thing about Dave Hemmingson... he is a self made man, from humble beginnings with a very genuine heart. He happens to like his toys to be over the top.... because he has the vision to do something like this car, and the means to accomplish it you gotta RAG on him? yer a lameass

BOHICA- First off, let me say thats the best looking Funco Ive ever seen. Whats the reasoning for going with the LS2 over a subaru? I've talked with grant several times and he always said the lesser weight with similar power makes the cars dune much better. Did you set yours up more for the drags and old? Not knocking it, just a question.

Dave should feel honored that so many people on the boards jump to defend him. I WAS NOT REFERING TO DAVE AT ALL. HE BUILT AN AWESOME CAR AND I AM SURE HE WILL DRIVE THE HELL OUT OF IT. DUMBASS:D

My Gen. 4 was a Subaru car and I loved the handling. With the upgrades on the Gen. 5, in particular the 3" shocks all the way around and the Fortin tranny, it would have been way overkill for the Subaru and I was tired of running race gas. The V8 car still has the typical Funco handling, is a little smoother thru the whoops since the wheelbase is 4" longer and the weight helps alot. Comparing the two cars, the Subaru is a lot easier to drive, just gas and go, the V8 requires a little more throttle control especially during the hard slides. You'll never see me running the drags or shooting the hill, not my thing.
