I think i officially started my research today for offshore rigs. I started my trek at Miller's Landing and checked out the 38 Scarab. I'm gonna take a trip to DSM this weekend to see the rest of my choices. What are your opinions of these mentioned rigs? or any other rigs not mentioned? looking in the 38' to 42' range. Thanks for the input!

I just bought a 38 Cig TS from DSM. It is still at their shop if you want to check it out. The name on the boat is "Smokin'Gun".
My choice in your size range would obviously be a Top Gun. I ran in the DSM poker run last weekend and the only boat that beat us was a 42 Tiger with 900's. The third boat to finish was not even within our sight by the first card stop. In big water like last weekend (6'-8') nothing can touch a Cig.
There were bigger boats out there with bigger power, but they could not handle the big water. Talk to either Scott or Tommy at DSM, they are the new owners and were in my boat during the run. They will tell you what they think about the Top Gun. Good luck.

You can probably get a lot of good feedback at OSO on these boats...A lot of people there have them and can help answer some questions...Also, check out active thunder boats..I don't know much about them but have hear good things about them....I saw a pretty nice 35 formula as Dick SImon Marine after the poker run..I think it was a 2001 but still new...Could be a good deal for somebody..

Well here's may play on this gameI had a 33' Scarab AVS great boat,,, JUST bought a 38 TOP GUN and HOLY HELL what a BOAT it is ,,HEY MrHCAT remember couple weeks ago when we spoke of the CIG boats on another topic I went balls deep and got the twin 575's xr drives and can not believe what a boat it is ,,the fit and finish is unbelievable words can't discribe. Took it out yesterday for the first time from Ft.Lauderdale on my usual trip and found I could go ten to twenty miles an hour faster because of the handling, http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif I WILL HAVE TO SAY THAT CIGERETTE HAS THE BOAT OF BOATS. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

Congrats on your new ride!Give it another year or so and try some magnums http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif.I've only been on a 38,rides like a T 72 in the desert.I can only imagine what a 53 Maltese [my all time favorite ,since they were introduced in the late 70's] would handle like.Did you trade both scarabs in ? Could you please post a picture of your cig like MrHavasucat did.

fountain does have the records boys. no im not stirring shit. i've ridden on two fountains and one formula but no cigarettes.
both fountains were 42' and the formula was there 419express/fastech. they were both nice boats but the fountains were well fountains.beautiful boats. good luck, when you getting that kind of boat its probably hard to make a bad choice.

Frank:
We've owned Scarabs, and Cigarettes, and I've been in many Fountains. They all build a good boat just depends on what you are looking for. The Scarab is not built as solid as the Cigarette. The Cigarette will hold up better in the big water than just about anything else out there. That being said the Fountains will generally be a touch faster, but a looser ride. If overall comfort, and ride is what you want go Cigarette all the way, if you want the fastest thing out there a Fountain is your choice unless you can get an Outerlimits.
Ambusher:
There is nothing wrong with the 388 Slingshot Hustlers. The people who roll them shouldn't be drving fast boats to begin with. They are a tricky hull, but not a bad boat.

2Prop,
Congrats on your new boat, I can see you are as impressed as I was with the handling and quality of the Cig. When I water tested the boat it was great, and I obviously was impressed or I would not have bought it. The real test though was the Poker run.
When you get a chance to run against a bunch of other offshore boats in rough conditions the Cig really shines. Good luck with the new boat, and post some pics. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif
BTW: I like the name!!

Just bought a 1999 scarab 33 avs with twin 500 efi's and stellings extension boxes. An awesome ride. This is our first boat so I do not have much to compare to. I have a feeeling though our second boat will either be another Scarab or a cigaratte 38 top gun. That top gun is amazing! You will not go wrong with a scarab though!

In the rough, my 35' Cig will run with any of the other brand 38 footers out there. At the dock my Cafe Racer steals eyes away from Fountains, Scarabs and Formulas. ;-)
If you're not dead sure about what you want, buy used. Because eventually, you'll want a Cig.
