Goof Off .. Get it at Walmart.
You could try WD-40 but try either it in a corner first to see how the carpet reacts.

We have a winner. We found wd-40 on a google search.....it didn't work that good. BUT, the wife remembered the Goof Off, which I had in the garage....that worked pretty damn well.
Now it's just clean up with resolve......
Thanks everyone....if your suggestions didn't work, we were going to have to move the couch to the middle of the living room!

Sorry. Your going to need a new boat now. Better inform the wife. :)
You can TRY this....
Take a can of Dust Off and invert it. Spray the liquid on the Putty and freeze it. Break it out.
Dont let the liquid touch you or you will get frost bit. I have done this before with GUM so I am ASSUMING this could work on Silly Putty.
Test the carpet first.
