That was cool! Even with my slow ass DSL download here at work. Worth the wait!!
Was that Long Beach, Marine Stadium? If so, they're racing toward the dead end and rock walls!! What the?? Why not the other way??

I was wondering the same thing, it did look like the Second Street bridge in the background didn't it? If they were starting back there 200 yards behind the west turning pin I guess that would give them plenty of room to slow and turn eh? Not much different than the Kboats making the east turn now.
Hey Jerry, did you put that video together? It didn't sound like your voice over work...

Yeah, but I think they'd want more run out if something went wrong or hung up near the finish.. Drag boats don't exactly turn like a K boat...

It appeared to be Long Beach by all the oil wells on the side (where the condo's n shit are now). But I could be wrong.
Very cool video regardless. Those guys were haulin ass in those old boats, considering the design of the day. And those old hemi's are very cool.

Russo thanks for the link that whole series of videos "hot rod story" is neat
I think there were two White Mists- My Dad told me the story of looking out the window of his hotel room and seeing this beautiful boat and the next day seeing it disintegrate- sad- I wonder where those famous old boats are

Miller Custom Boats

The boat going over backwards, with "air trapped in the nose", in the vid is a Miller, built around 1957, owned and driven by Ed Johnson. Marrine Stadium, Long Beach, CA. Sidebar, Ed had never really put his foot in it but had just sold the boat that day , so he went for it. He had held the Unblown Gas Record. There is an article about this boat on our history page, Too Tuff for Towing, 1959 Hot Rod Magazine.
