Hi guys,
I'm looking at a 1980 boat with a 454 TRS setup. The trim controls are mounted on the dash and not integrated to the throttle lever. Can I simply buy the newer model lever with the trim tab and re-wire the trim feeds to that?
Here's the way it is now...

I was looking for the same one as I had on my old boat. It was a 5.7 Alpha. Couldn't find one. But here's a pic of a similar one...

Wow, those are some fancy shifters. How about a good 'ol fashioned Mercruiser shifter? I actually can't seem to find one. Even googled it. Any of you have any luck.
Regardless, it sounds like I should be able to switch it over, yes?

I went with a twist throttle last year. I like it much better that the thumb throttle.

not sure which one you are talking about, guess we would need to see an actual picture, this is the same one as in the pic http://www.danamarineproducts.com/GroupCatProducts.cfm?CatId=345&group_id=33&page=1&CFID=366319&CFTOKEN=50352213

Jeff you should be able to change it over without much of a problem. I have the latest model "merc" shifter that's going to be coming off my boat here pretty quick that I'd be willing to sell cheap.

Jeff,
I have the original throttle control on my 1985 Eliminator. It is just like yours, but mine is setup for left side operation. My gauges are also original. I had the floor redone and the interior completly replaced by Eliminator in 2006.
I will not be getting rid of mine, as I am keep boat as originally equipped.
The new controls are much safer, than your classic style. Don't through it away when you replace it. I'll take it for spare parts.
Good luck on the boat.
