Faggarts motor builder and tuner was Jerry Dorman who he paid to be at every race. Dorman's combo was always a "510 GMC" as he called it. Always ran Injectors and zoomies.
Dorman built motors for the Offixio (sp?) flat back east and also for Chester Montgomery out of Texas who ran 140 in his flat...back in the day.
Note the cast iron heads on Faggart's deal. Many rumors about those including that Faggart had a relative who worked for GM and those castings were "different".
Only Dorman knew for sure.
Jim Lange did a lot of bottom work to make those rides so free.
Just some history of the era.

The yellow boat was a Hondo, Gary Loftin in "Nurvgas". That was an really good boat and was later raced in SDBA by a friend of mine, Larry Skidmore. In 1977 Larry crashed that boat at an SDBA race in Tulsa when an ear came off the prop at 121 MPH. The boat was destroyed.

Faggart sold that hydro to a guy here in Waco named Mel Thurman. He ran it for a couple of years, but the neat thing about that boat was the paint.
At the end of a run, you could touch the orange on the side of the boat and it was soft and spongy. Wierd deal.
Hey Retired....what ever happened to Larry Skidmore? Haven't thought about him in years.

Larry still lives in the Tulsa area and is retired from the Guard. He is not doing anything except taking care of his ill mother and her affairs. I talk to him every few weeks.
