That's pretty much the list... but I don't think Altascadero is So Cal!
One more vote for MPD :)

Do it yourself...if you're just doing a stock rebuild it's easier than shit to do.

Why yes I did lol. Due to a mistake I made...but I rebuilt it the 2nd time and have had no problems since.
On that note, if you're installing a non shouldered wear ring, trim off the excess of the liner that sticks up from the wear ring against the thrust face of the suction housing. And CHECK YOUR THRUST CLEARANCE!!! When you put it together if you hear or feel any scraping or dragging anywhere, it's wrong. It should spin freely and quietly all the way around and should be rather easy to turn as well.

Or has my dad used to say "Why is there enough time to do it a second time, but not enough time to do it right the first time". We all learn. Thanks for the helpfull info.

Another vote to do it yourself. Its easy. You learn a lot in the process and you will understand how it works.

A Shop press is a definate,A torch of some kind is helpfull ! An impeller puller tool is nice but you may be able to get by with a good jaw type puller, The Impeller nuts always fun and the Impeller nut tool helps (there again you can improvise) The basic job is pretty simple and straight forward assuming everythings not all "fused' together from time and corrosion Disassembly is usually the toughest part IMO. Ive had impellers that "slide off" and those that "drag' the woodruff key and become a nightmare . I've had Impeller nuts you can take off with no effort and those that need to be "split' or cut . A lot depends on who and how put it together last and how long its been since its been apart. Call if you need coaching or tech Tom

I have to agree with Tom. A press is a must have. I bought the nut socket and impeller puller. The nut socket was a God send as it took a hefty compressor and an impact wrench banging away about 3 minutes of non-stop run to get the nut loosened. The impeller puller, well, I didn't need it as the impeller slipped off by hand. But, if I hadn't gotten the puller, the way things were going, I would never have gotten the impeller off. Pressing out and then in the bushings in the bowl, I tried to do it without a press and I think I would still be beating on it and smashing good sockets into bad ones. Once these 2 or 3 items are out of the way, it's just a matter beating the shaft out, not a big deal, it was just tight in the old seals and the bearing was in there pretty good.
Tom is a pro and this was my first go around, so I'm sure he's seen it all and I just got lucky. The best advice I can give it, DON'T BUY THE PARTS ONE AT A TIME!. Buy the rebuild kit. Greg

I did buy the Berkeley pump tool kit, which comes with the puller, nut socket, a spline socket (to slip over the drive end of the shaft to hold it while you break that pesky impeller nut loose), and all the seal drivers as well as the bowl bushing driver. That tool set is worth its weight in gold I must say.

All you really need is a puller and the socket. Everything else is just "extra"
