I've never seen anything about this place on here and since its winter time and boring I thought this might be of interest.
About 3 years ago we took the G.D. (3-4 yrs old) to this place and it was pretty awesome. It is NOT A ZOO but instead a place that provides safe haven for abused animals such as Elvis, a huge maneless male lion, he got that way because of some idiot entertainer who wanted a lion, they will tell you the sad story:( There are many species of anything imaginable, tigers, cougars, wolves, panthers, birds, lizards etc. The place survives on donations and a small entrance fee The name is ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"Keepers of the Wild" located on historic Route 66 (Hwy 93 I think) in Valentine Az. about 29 mi north of Kingman at mile marker 87. Its in the middle of nowhere! 928-769-1800 www.keepersofthewild.org. A very worth while trip:D Heres a few pic's for you.... NSF

Beautiful animal and nice to see them so close up. Word of note: I noticed that the big cats seemed to always have their eye on the G.D. so the guide said that's about the size they like for food:jawdrop: I havent seen the new digs for them as they were just building it so the animals would have more room to roam. :D NSF

Cool, even though I hate to see cats or any animal caged up like that. In late September I was bow hunting and had a momma bobcat and 3 of her kittens come in and bed down for a nap about 30 yards from me. I watched them playing and napping around for about 30 minutes. It was cool as shit.
The coyotes are really putting the pressure on the bobcats competing for food. I see fewer and fewer bobcats each year.

yup, Anne Hjelle got attaked at whitting ranch and she is pretty small. And Mark Reynolds was bending down fixing his bike chain when he got attacked at the same place. They found him eaten after they went down to rescue Anne.

That would have been really cool to see. Hey, most of our cats are not caged either.
Wanna go on a night mountain bike ride? lol these pics were taken with cameras hooked up to motion sensors.
Be carefull if you are hiking in So Cal. Cats are displaced after the fires.

Those are some great pics. I was bear hunting in Eastern Washington about 7 or 8 years ago and the dogs struck a big cat and after running it around a little valley a few times, it treed. We made it over to the tree and there was this huge male cougar sitting on a limb about 15 feet up the tree. The guys I was hunting with talked about how much fun it was to hunt cougars but that they didn't see that many any more. Dude whipped out his 7 mag and as he was taking aim on the cat. I pushed his gun away. Well they didn't take to well to that but I managed to talk them out of shooting the cat. We put the dogs on a leash and headed back to the truck. Went back to hunt with them a couple of years later and one night while sitting around the campfire they told me that they thought I was crazy for stopping them from shooting that cat that night. But after thinking it over they decided I was right and there might be a chance that all the cougars could be gone one day. They didn't want to see that so they decided they would no longer kill cougars. Those boys were hardcore hound hunters. I was a little surprised that they gave it up. I don't know how long they live but I kinda hope that big tom is still running the Eastern Cascades.
Now I will kill the hell out of yotes. They get no mercy from me.

In this case, some of these animals were so abused that this was their last stop before death. People should understand that we cannot keep wild animals for our pleasure and fun. The stories of some of these guys were enough to make to throw up. Like I said it's not a Zoo! :( NSF

Yeah it's pretty sad. I've never been to that one but have been to The Waystation. The bears were really sad I thought.

Didn't even know that place existed. I will be going real soon. We love going to Out of Africa park in Camp Verde and we will certainly go out to this place.
Big Cats are some of the most amazing creatures to observe. For someone to cut off the main of a male lion is terrible. It never grows back.........:(

I believe the story go's like this, a woman entertainer who wanted a PET LION:mad:  wanted him more docile and when he began to grow up, she procurred Elvis as a cub, and he became aggressive, HERES THE BEST PART, she had him neutered in an attempt to calm him down:mad:   ASSHOLE!!! A huge mistake and his mane never grew in and he became a very big cat. Just so sad what a misguided rich person can do to an animal because they want a pet!!! :( NSF ,,, PS the story is in this months issue of "Colorado River Life"

Cool pictures!! Yeah it's very sad what people do to animals that should be left in the wild. Two of our Bengals, brother and sister, were breed over and over in an attempt to get a white tiger. The cubs that were born and not white were just abused and near death when we came along and took them. Very very sad! Most of our animals have very sad stories, it's just crazy what people will do!
We are the same type of place, we only stay alive from donations. We are fortunate a lot of people care and send us money. It is by far the most rewarding job I've ever had and the least amount of money I've ever made!

That's terrible. I love going to see these animals. Out of Africa here in Az has a black rhino that was saved by Echo Unlimited owner, Mark Echo and donated to the park. It is a great story along with many others.
One of the coolet things about the park is that they have thrown female lions ans and tigers together and they have created prides with animals that are exist on two seperate continents.
