Not wanting to "Prop it" from the AVI Casino to Topock gorge what are preferences on either of the 2 parks above.
We plan to drive down from the AVI, launch in the morning and leave the rig there all day then tow back to the AVI in the evening. I'd be interested in opinions.
Thanks

We were out there 2 weeks ago and had to launch at Moabi~Jack Smith was still too low. It's your safest bet. That's a pretty long tow, but better safe than sorry....Have a good time!! :) :)

It was worse than Jack Smith....Not sure what it looks like now. We're heading out the weekend of the 18th, so we'll check again then...

What about Topock?
We have not launched there in a long time....since the fire when all the docks burned and were rebuilt. I remember it was a pretty steep launch and not much parking, but it's not busy out there yet. When we went by 2 weeks ago, it was looking pretty shallow through there.....we didn't pull in for a burger....
Besides, the water sometimes looks Mississippi brown, especially at the river entrance, so this time of year it's hard to tell how shallow it really is....This is Labor day last summer...

We are trying to plan a long weekend and hook up with some old friends from San Diego that have never been there. No set dates but looking at April. I sure miss my Jet but my back doesn't.

I hear ya. Our jet could fly through that shallow area from Avi to Needles no prob. Even on a low river day. But Topock with the jet was a back breaking experience! LOL! Glad to have the modified V now! :p :rollside: You should be fine in April. Jack Smith is so much nicer than Moabi. Its closer to drive to also. :)

Call the water REPORT 928-754-3666 there has to be at least 12,000 cfm for launching at needles and it takes till about noon for the water to come up real nice you can only run the stretch from avi down to needles after 1pm and when there letting out 13,000 + with no problems :rollside: :rollside:

I guess the driver makes the difference!!!!!You know the river you won't suck or hit any rocks...BEWARE of your sorroundings. Water flow is critical....Like surfing, rippled water indicate shallow water, also look for the color change in the water.....Stay on Plane..... :) Good Luck... We have our river house across from AVI...PM Pixi or I and we'll hook up...We been traveling that part of river since 1999...No problems yet....

THanks for the info. I've been running the river from I-40 through LHC and the Parker strip since 1984. I can do that part in my sleep.
However above I-40 is all new territory excpet when I took my Managers on a Jet Ski tour from AVI to the Gorge. and that's why I ask. I remember some really tight stuff. I think I'll stick to JS park or Moabi for a launch now that I'm running a prop. Actully, I am just trying to get away from the LHC hotel scene if you want to know the truth

LOL! Yah it does get tight south of Willow Valley. You obviously have been doin the river thing a long time, you would be fine.....but gas is so freakin expensive now! It pays to just drive down and launch elsewhere. :p :p Thats what we do now. Hope to see ya at Avi for some 3 card Poker! :rollside:

I was out at jack smith two weekends ago......it was about 4ft deep coming out of the channel just trim up and float out to the middle then head south, fluctuating river depts in between 8ft and 12 ft all the way down to topoc. If you decide to hang a right into park moabi, be careful very shallow going into the channel entrance. Pixilated......your going next weekend, stop by my house and kidnap me to go along.....My B-day is memorial weekend are you going then??????

Water was low last Saturday, but people were launching. A big Ebbtide deckboat launched right after we took this pic.
