Fiery accident closes State Route 95
Friday, May 23, 2008 6:15 PM MST
An accident involving a car and a tractor-trailer rig closed State Route 95 at milepost 170 at about 4:40 p.m. today.
Lake Havasu City spokesman Charlie Cassens, who was on the scene, said there was at least one fatality and possibly more, though he didn't know the number of people involved.
Cassens said the truck appeared to be traveling northbound and the car southbound when they hit head on. The car and the truck tractor were consumed in flame, and debris was strewn along the highway for about a hundred and fifty yards, he said.
Lake Havasu City Fire and Police, Desert Hills Fire, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Arizona Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
State Route 95 is expected be closed for four to five hours.
