I have a jet boat with a 454 chevy. I have two breathers, one on each valve cover. After a short run on the water I notice oil in the bottom of the boat and all over the valve covers like it's blowing out of the vent. Should I have a PCV valve setup on one side? Would that cure the problem? Any info would be great!

make sure to have a baffel inside the valve cover so oil shooting up does not
go right into breather..they also make breather's with a about a 3in stem
to get the breather up a little off the valve cover..here's a pick of my set up

I guess that is my problem...no baffle!! Do you think it woul theow enough oil to see it in the bottom of the boat? Not a puddle but it sure did coat the bottom of the engine bay.

Try Putting Some Steel Wool Into The Stem.i Did This And It Helped A Lot.i Tried A Pvc Valve But It Sucked All The Oil Out Of The Motor.i Have A Bafful But It Wasnt Enough.here Is My Set Up.my Dip Stick Blows Out Also At High Rpm Makes A Mess

You know I thought it was coming out of the dipstick also. Do you think I need a baffle or can I just stuff some steel wool in the breather. I have comp cams gold race rockerarms, will a baffle clear?

Are your breathers open or have a shield around them.I hade to run hose off mine to 2 puke tanks mounted low out of the wind.

I had the same problem with oil comming out of my breathers at WOT, my problem was that i drilled my breather holes on one side of the motor right over a rocker so it was shooting oil right up into the filter.
I was going to setup a puke tank system so i bought the puke tank and valve cover vent breathers from rex. I coudlnt find a good spot to mount the puke tank so i got over it and bought these little k&n filters from a local shop and threaded them onto the AN fitting that screwed into the valve cover vent. The valve cover vent from rex has 3 levels in it and it has solved my problem. Here's the page with them, item is 181-100

You can see them on my boat here.

make sure you check your compresion in each cylinder to make sure you havent cracked a ring also. U will get blow back from the cylinder pushing into the crankcase which will cause this problem also. DOnt want to worry you. But better safe than sorry .

Is the oil comming out at WOT only? What RPM's does it start to spit? Guides/rings? How many qts does your oilpan hold? How many qts are you running?

I have a moroso 13 qt $500 oil pan. I have 9 qt in it and one in the filter(also in the pan). I'll have to check at what rpms. I hope it's nothing major. I only have one season on the motor!!! It's not so bad as to see a difference in the level of oil on the dip stick.
