What a great forum you guys have here. The best i've seen yet.I have a 72 sanger superjet w/a berkely 12jc.I'm trying to learn all i can about jet drives. seems like they need a lot of rpm's to get going. I only had the boat out once but the 302 ford ran like crap
I'm planning to put a jet drive in the 26 ft aluminum planing hull i'm building. I think im going to need a pump with a large diameter impeller or maybe i'll stick the 12jc in it, just to see how it works out.
Could someone tell me what impeller size or cut is in a stock 12jc.it also has a jetovator trim adjust on it.

302! Sounds like you better move up in cubic inches if you're gonna run with the big boys. Think engine not pump.

Jets love lots of cubic inches and torque higher in the RPM range to run well. A jet is essentially a water dyno, and will really load the motor down.
You can make that Ford work if you drop the impeller size down to a "C" or even a "D" and let the motor rev. It's not too good for longevity or economy, but you can't have everything.

Yeah, stick with that 302 but I would up the ante with that thing, high compression, go through the heads, the guy that built my 460 for my boat builds 302s with almost 500 hp, no blower! You might miss out on the tourqe of the big block, but in all honesty, who really needs (or can actually go) 80-100 mph in a small boat in choppy water. I like my 58 mph BBF powered disco boat, let the fast guys go fast in choppy water and crack the bottom of their boat..... wait ....

Welcome to the boards. You will find all the help you need here. I am running a 460 Ford and JC pump in my boat and run right at 58 miles per hour. Step up to a big block. That little 302 is working too hard to push your boat at any type of speed that even feels remotely fast. I think there was a 454 block For Sale someone on the boards for around 300.

i would step up to the big block as well. its would make more power faster and easier. it might cost more in the begging .but spend once, cry once. wink

yea, I would like to stay with the ford set-up seeing as i have all ford stuff.but all my friends tell me to switch to chevy for the lower cost in parts. I have also heard that the chevys are more comfortable at the higher rpms.
but i am definatly in the market for a decent used motor or maybe a local rebuilt. reliabilty is the biggest concern i have.
And thanks for the warm welcome.

welcome to the jet board. I love the bbc but i run a 325hp 350 sbc in a 20' egale almn. hull and it gpsed at 59 mph and change so the small blocks can handle the task but a burn as much fuel as my friends with big irons just to keep up when crusing.

jodandles, thats not bad performance, i think. do you have a picture of your boat?what else can you tell me about it? do you like the 350 sb ? what rpms do you run for lets say cruising and wot. I do have a set of nicson alum headers for a chevy bb(i think). its a start anyway.

Howdy Chet, Well, i'm just north of albany ... about a 4hr high speed(45knts) boat ride on the Mighty HUdson to Hells Gate devil Troy to be more precise. The boat ramp is right out side my office window. The federal lock and Dam is right here.I'm hoping to explore the soutern part of the river this year. I hear the are lots of nice sandy banks south of Albany.

But however you can go to www.gatorboatjets.com (http://www.gatorboatjets.com) on the picture section mine is on the top row it,s blue w/ yellow bubbles. As far as cruse RPM about 31 to 3200 keeps me at 38-40mph and at wot im at 4500-4600RPM and run almost 60mph. I run an A/T 309 pump. With an a impeller and place divrt.

thanks jodangles, thats great info. I like your boat, it seems more practical on the deck, but it still has a nice running bottom.

Welcome to the boards. If you stick around for any length of time you will eventually learn each and everyone's individual diversified personalities. They can be very entertaining.
Also rumor has it that the forums are eventually going to add some great tech sections for advice for stuff like, upgrading to a larger motor and this is how I did it, etc etc.
Welcome aboard and enjoy.
