Trim indicator ?

the drive trim indicator reads erratic when I use the switch on my offshore controll the indicator on the dash goes all the way up? I know the drive is still low then I hit the switch again and it seams to read correctly.
Had a shop look at it when I had the last service but it is still the same.
the shop said nothing wrong ?? what could it be :confused:
