Tomorrow morning at Canyon Lake, hydrofoil ski inventor/champion Mike Murphy is taking one of this buddies on a world record adventure. The acknowledged record for most flips (air inverts) on a Sky Ski in one hour is 526! They're going for at least 600 in 60 minutes (one flip every six seconds without a fall). Murphy has done 714 consecutive flips before, but not in one hour. If they make it, they will continue on for the all-time endurance flip record which is just over 1400 flips without stopping. Since that might take 3-1/2 to 4 hours, they're taking extra gas in the boat so they don't have to make a pit stop. A mounted video camera on the boat (a Mastercraft) will record every flip for proof.

Apparently he alternates "flipping directions" -- one left, then right, then left, etc., etc., to avoid getting dizzy. If he only goes in one direction, he can only get off about 7 or 8 flips, then has to "fly" level for about 10 to 15 seconds to recover.

He did it! Bill Vonzabren, age 42, from Canyon Lake set new air invert (360 degree consecutive flips) records today on a Sky Ski. First, he set the new 1-hour flip mark with 711 consecutive flips, then Sky Skied for another 5 hours and 20 minutes (he covered over 160 miles without stopping) and did an incredible 3,058 consecutive flips without a fall. The old total flip record was 1,460! Anybody interested in trying to top that record?

Those are some incredible numbers. Congrats to all involved. In answer to your question, No way. I can't even sit in my rocking chair that long.
