It depends on the type of foam. You might try using acetone in a little area and see if that doesnt melt your foam away. There are chemicals that will do this just makes a mess.

The only way to get it out is to get in there and start chipping it out.

Yup, try a chisel and a vacuum cleaner... You can spray it back in later.

Should I be concerned that there is no foam in the bow area where the hook is on my boat

No, the foam is in there for added floatation.

The bolts broke free on the hook. Turns out that the boat slid back about 1 foot on the bunks and the front end was very light. I had to strap to the throttle pedal to keep the front down.

If there is still enough foam to try this: An electric carving knife goes right through foam.
Always see them at garage sales for $1 or $2.
Great for removing big chunks and shaping.
Don't think it will help where the foam is stuck to the hull though.

Kevin That's a good idea idea
In the front of my hull is a large inner tube that is inflated. Much more easily removed and not nearly as messy. :)

If that hook is loose it needs to be tightened, Ours was loose and ended up sheering off. We were lucky because we didn't have any foam in the bow. We couldn't climb under our bow, so we had to weld a swivel and socket on the end of a long piece of rebar. It was tedious work but we taped a bolt in the socket and we were able to get it all tightened up

While you're up under the bow don't bother tightening the old bow eye, change it. They have been known to break and do at the most inconvenent times. eek!

I too have the large inner tubes under the bow ... but I am small enough to fit all the way under and work in there .... Don't do it in the summer ! and check your bow light wires while you are in there eek! :D

I had to send my 7 year old son under to change my bow eye. We practiced with the new one and tools in the living room. He did a good job. Damn draw bar trailer will loosen one every time. I redesigned mine.
