Is this possible? If not what can get in the tank that looks simular?
What do you do to get rid of it?

Hey Bro,
I don't know if it's posable but I do know it's possible!
Rust from any iron fittings is easily deposited in the tanks.
Also the appearance of varnish from old fuel can have the appearance of rust.
Maybe. Maybe not.

I have some aluminum tanks that were used for alcohol and it literally ate holes through the tanks and caused "rust" in the bottom of the tanks. After glassing over the bottoms of the tanks and frequent fuel filter changes, everything is finally cleaned up and functional without the weekly filter changes.
