Has anyone built their own interior and possibly have pictures or drawings? I have an 18' jet and I need to build a new seating configuration....two buckets with one bench seat or a split bench in the back.
Any info./websites/referrals is greatly appreciated! eek!

I built my back seat and sundeck, dont have any pics but if you are going to do it use some cardboard to make templates before you cut wood.

I did my interior as well on the old boat and now I am getting ready to do the one I have now with a rear seat and sun deck set up and have the upholstery man cover up the wood. You have to plan it out and cut up the wood after you make a template, fit it into place and allow for the thinkness of the form and so forth and your are done

Yeah, We bought an old german industrial sewing machine that will go through multiple layers of material, and makes good welting also. Best part of doing yourself, if you don't like it, did not cost a lot. Just redo it untill satified.

My brothers and I just finished our interior project. It took roughly 6wks. to complete. First we began our research here in the forums, do a search (helpful for anything) you'll see a lot of different projects and get some great time saving ideas. Anyway, first we wanted to maximize the useable space and convert the two buckets and a rear bench into a horse shoe shape arrangement or cocktail seats with a front engine cover. But, that arrangement wouldn't measure up, not enough space and would be a pain in the ass to fab up the new seats. So we tore apart the old seats made templates from the old stuff, bought 2 5/8" cdx sheets, built the seats, fabric and resine the corners, then resine the rest. Got about six different upholstry shop estimates, use references! I'll try to post pics soon. Good luck!

You could use 1/2 good one side and put matt and resin on both sides to seal it up and for strength and would it be lighter.Rember you do not want a shit load of weight in a jet.

pat(slotracer) :D I liked the original upholstery the best. I might have Pix from the maiden voyage with the throw cussions for padding. That was the race configuration. You don't have to go overboard on the resin. I would coat all the wood lightly but the odds are that the wood will out last the upholstery. I built seats in my friends charger. they were newer style but the rear bench was two buckets and a console. He had a crank mounted alternator.

I bought a couple of buckets at $200 or so(not the greatest seats, but descent) and just ordered extra material for the bench. I made my frame for the bench outta .060 aluminum sheet by rolling sections and welding together. This created curves for lateral support to hold passengers in place.
everything worked out pretty good except for the place that I had sew the fabric and put it on the seat, they didn't pull it real tight and it has a few wrinkles. Sorry, no in progress pictures. The rear bench came out at 7.5 lbs and is pretty comfy.

Thanks all. I will try to round up some pictures when I was building it. I used 1/2" plywood and I glassed all the seams and used L brackets on all the backrest to strengthen it up and then I put a couple coats of resin over the whole enchalada. Seems to be holding up great after 2 years.

Here is seat frame I made for my '73 Tahiti prior to applying resin. I also used some mat at the seams for added strength. http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/880Mvc-001s-med.jpg

Here is completed seat. This is my first attempt at upholstery work. It cost about $350 for materials for two back-to-back buckets and a benchseat. The sewing machine was about $500. http://http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/880Mvc-006f-med.jpg

The material in Dougs seat that is like tuck & roll, can it be bought with the pleats already there or do you have to sew them in?

H2O, my pops was telling me about a place on the net to order pre-tucked marine grade material that is pretty reasonable, I will see him tomorrow and get the website...BTW he lives in Cash TX, just up the road from you. Watch out for them stumps in Tawokonie...

I'd appreciate that Johnbouy. Yea Cash is almost rock throwin distance. You are right about the trees. I don't know where they got the idea, around here, that lakes should have trees stickin up out of them, but boy we gottem. Cedar creek is the place that amazes me. A little texas reservoir, smaller than Tawakoni, with BIG offshore racing boats running all over it.
