About a year ago I installed A Rex Marine thermostat kit on my 455. I have it plummed exactly as they instructed and it works well when cruising 160-190 deg. but idling around,ski,..etc gets way to hot 210+! I have to get on it to cool it down. Is this normal? If so its back to the cold block with hot pistons.

If ya look at the thermostat you'll see a smal hole drilled in the side....well just drill one or two more around the other side...try it with 1 more first and if needed add the extra.
I had the same issue and the added hole cured the hot ideling proplem.

I don't know the setup they sell, but using a 180 stat with 2 5/32" holes and an adjustable relief valve setup, set at 15 psi cruise speed, it's the Bone for Betty. My boat ran so cold, now its' 180 + - 5 degrees, go out and have fun type of setup. I believe it was Rivercrazy that turned me on to the setup. No valves to Dick with, just turn the key. Mcmaster/Carr has the relief for $34.

Ok thanks. Will give the extra hole a try. Just not getting enough H20 in there at low rpms.

One quick tip...after ya drill that hole, make sure ya de-burr it so the plunger won't stick!
