My 18' Spectra gets shitty mileage. I can go from bluewater up to the dam and by the time I am at the no wake zone back at bluewater I am out of gas. Its a 20 gallon tank. Is this right?normal?
just a bbc,berk.

HavasuDCB, That is actually not too bad. I beleive the strip is 17 (?) miles. So you are going roughly 34 miles on twenty gallons. From my experience it is average for a jet. My 19' Eliminator sprint had BBF, two 660's, and twenty gallons worth of fuel. It wouldn't do that. It would barely make it to roadrunner and back to bluewater. However, my bigger, heavier cruiser (Advantage 20.5 Classic) has a 454, tight pump, 850 Holley DP and will get to the dam and back on about 10-12 gallons.
It depends a lot on how it is driven. My cruiser is just that, cruisin' most of the time (occasionally open it up). Whereas the 19' was balls out. It also depends on carb cfm and pump efficiency.

I think you got a problem.
Parker strip is only 12 miles long. I'd be checking your carb, or your heavy right foot!

I think your pump is toast!

Put a bigger fuel tank in. And dont smile so much it causes drag.

Hoss,
Good call the pump is junk. It is being rebuilt right now.

Buy a V-drive, it will use half the fuel that jet does.

DCB, what rpm's did you max out on with the bad pump and "a" impeller ?

norcal,
I run it pretty hard! to like 5300 but I don't think it made any power or speed over 4800. What shoud full throttle be. I know on the DCB it is like 5500. But thats a prop. The spectra is way more fun to drive.

you should have been turning about 4300-4700 depending on your h.p. you will feel a huge difference when we did my pump i thought there was something wrong with the motor when i could only turn about 4200...new impeller and a tight
pump will do that....

yeah iam thinking that you were blowing water bye or not moving enough water there is now way a stock motor would be able to move that impeller at 5300 rpm. thats my opion i can tell you that in my spectra 19 when it was stock it would only spin to 4700 at 53 mph. the tight pump is going to test the motor, and going to bring down your rpm.! wink
