Went out for closing day at El Cap and had a little issue. running at around 4 grand the engine did the famous hicup and droped a cylinder and lost oil preasure. Nursed it back to the ramp on 20 pounds of preasure and took it home. No compression in # 6, pulled the valve cover and laughed. I heard no rattles at all when it was running even though alot of parts were just trying to find a new place to hang out for a while. Weird thing is it broke a stud on the exaust and bent a pushrod on the intake, popped the lifters out (oil preasure prob) and didnt do any other damage. Heads off right now, no bent valves. Im gonna buy some ARP studs, new pushrods and some gaskets and run it some more. I threw this engine together with alot of spare parts I had laying around and its been together for over 2 years and over 10 bottles of nitrous on a 150 shot running at 5600 rpm , not bad I guess. I didnt think it would last with Hypereutectics, Chevy studs, roller tip rockers, lash caps, 5/16 pushrods and some other crappy parts but what the hell, I tried.

FRYJET, get rid of those rockers. I had the same problem using a roller tip rocker on my BBC. Are those COMP rockers? What happens is the oil hole is drilled wrong and at high rpm's the oil over shoots the rocker and they don't oil the fulcrum ball under the adj nut causing the stud to get hot and break. I even broke ARP rocker studs. Is the metal on rocker base discolored? That means lack of oil. A full roller rocker set up will cure that problem. Compare oiling holes to a full roller set up and you'll see the difference.Hope this helps.
Good luck

My advise would be the same. Get rid of those comp rockers. They are nothing but trouble. Get the real thing. Isky are high, but they are one of the best. Put them on and your problem is gone. We throw set after set of those away that customers have had problems with. just my 2 cents!

Sounds like you have a plan to fix it, good luck and upgrade as stated above. I changed all my head bolts earlier in the year.

Thanks for all the great input guys. It will be back together in a week and ready for the river.
Dohara and Duane...No discoloration at all but I know what your saying, I knew they were crap to begin with but I had them. Thanks for the input.
Cyclone...ElCap is supposed to reopen in Feb, I will let you guys know.
AZKC...Your pictures make me feel WAY better, thanks bud wink
565...I'll shoot you a e-mail, thanks.
Matt1...Its powdercoated, silver chrome or something like that. Way easy to maintain and looks great too. The coil is just a chrome Accell, I have a Mallory dual point with the electronic conversion.
Thanks again.

Hey FryJet what kind of intake is it. Its a Edelbrock Victor 460. It seems to work good but it needed alot of port matching to line up with the DOVE-C heads, I dont know if they are all like that but mine was about 3/16 off. I think its the best looking 460 single plane manifold out there though wink
