Dude- just estimating mine breaks down like this- $2000 for hull, $700 junkyard engine, $1700 engine rebuild, $390 distributor-MSD-wires, $250 scoop for carb, $600 used fresh pump, $300 used Place diverter, $150 used droop snoot, $400 used thru- transom water inj. headers, $300 new hoses all around, $100 new wiring, $300 new seats, $200 new steering and throttle cables, $100 bilge pumps, $150 Gauges, $250 rail type engine mounts-
plus stainless fasteners and all kinds of odds and ends- crap I'm getting tired and depressed thinking about it- I'd guesstimate about $8500- and more time than I can imagine.
I'm sure I forgot some items too.

I have a '79 Baja 19'bowrider. I bought it in '83 for $7600. Over the 20 years I have spent around $22,000. New motor (twice), new interior and new carpet (twice). Work on hull including new rub rail. Gel coat work ie, wet sanding and polishing etc. New cover(twice). Radio and 4 speakers. Trailer tires and lights (many). I do very little serious work on the boat mayself. I write a lot of checks. The boat looks beautiful and gets a ton of compliments. I almost forgot,Jet pump work. I still want a set of Lightning Headers ($2500). I also want a new trailer ($2500). It dosn't bother me one bit that I spent this money. My family and I have enjoyed boating and camping immensely. I have a 2001 Holiday Rambler 31' travel trailer pulled be a 2003 Ford Turbo Diesel Crewcab. I pull the boat with a 2002 Expedition. I am not bragging,I worked hard for these things. All totaled I am probably over 100 thousand. A friend on mine died of a bain tumor at 44. I want to live my life to the fullest because "THIS AINT NO DRESS REHEARSAL". What I mean is you get one shot at life, only one. Sorry for the rambling.

Time: not too much yet. Is that a race pump or something? Seems for that kinda $$$$ you should be flying in that thing. What kinda speeds are you at with only 300hp? Hopefully your going to have a healthier motor to go with a pump like that.

CHET Well, lets see - it was a JC pump, so i needed a new bowl to install a snoot, there was 1000. next was shaft, impeller, rebuild kit, diverter, inducer impeller, intake.
Yea, new motor will be this winter's project. - unless the paint runs over budget, then im stuck with this motor for another year.
Old pump would go 55 on gps @ 4400rpm. New pump should do 65-70 on gps. Wont know till next week when i bolt it all back together.

Boat was 5000.00
Interior was 6500.00
Paint, Did myself 900.00
New 514 Ford 5500.00
Rebuilt jet & diverter install 2500.00
So a touch under 20 in 3 years, but reading hot boat a new 21' jet in similar trim would go for about 50

I paid $4700 for the boat in '98. I put the blower on it for around $5k. I'm getting ready to install the rebuilt engine(built specifically for the blower), which cost upwards of $8k. I built a pump for the blower motor, which cost another $500-$600(I had a core pump to start with). That doesn't include all the odds and ends over the last 4 1/2 years.
So all in all, I'm probably into this one for close to $20k.
Don't tell my wife... :D

I have around 7000 in mine. 7000 for the motor I was building for it.
I didn't pay shit for the boat when I got it, 500 bucks or something like that. Smoked the Olds first time out, rebuilt it, and then replaced it with a Dodge.
The hours I have put into it would be countless. I would be a millionaire if I paid myself by the hour. But I did it all myself, except for covering the seats.

Wrote a check for $25 Large for the used boat, just minor upkeep since. Its a 2001 so still runnin' solid! Biggest expense so far...I bought some anodized cup holders from Rex...
Time?...just normal maintenance, a few hours a month.
So far, so good!

In 1990 I bought a lake ready CVX-20 Glastron Carlson, which upon further inspection was basically junk, so my wife and i had it restored to original factory condition.
Here it is 13 years and 3 engines later we still have a great lake boat that gets a lot of lookers, and after adding the latest engine, a 468 with all of the goodies, the old boat is capable of 70+ mph and is still a fun ride.
As for how much we spent in $$$$ and time, if I had kept up I would probably commit hari-kari, as a poster above put it you only live once so act like today is your last and have fun.

Bought the boat for $3400 six years ago. Redid everything except the gelcoat and I've got close to $14,000 in it now.
Nice thing is........it always ran since the day I bought it. The money I put into it was a little here and a little there, not a lump sum.
I had the motor n pump rebuilt, and the seats redone. The rest I did myself and the hours of personal time are countless. The boat is absolutely turnkey. I drive the heck out of it every weekend. I may be able to sell it for half of what I have into it.........maybe. But I don't care, cuz I aint selling it anyway.

My current boat has been pretty much write the check and use it. I paid 10K and have only spent 1000 to put a Place Diverter on it.
My Challenger was a whole diferent deal:
5000 for boat and trailer.
5500 for paint on both.
6500 for building the motor.
2500 for interior.
1500 for stereo.
500 for rebuilding the jet.
Who know's how much for other various parts. I stopped counting cause it started getting scary.
100's of hours in my own time messing around with it. Like someone said earlier, if I paid myself, I'd be a millionaire. :D

Hey OldPhart,
I still would love to get by your way and pick up those exhaust bits. Maybe sometime when your running out your boat, I can drag mine out that way as well.
Now I realize that you are the same guy in the Sidewinder thread. It'd be great to meet you and make up some stories for you.

I scared to admit, but I have 32,000 (Canadian)into my engine and another 30,000 in the boat/trailer. Some day I'll have to quit boating if I want to retire.

I bought the boat for $2300. (The previous owner passed away and he'd just stuck $2500 into the BBC rebuild). Dropped another $800 for the diverter/controls, $120 for gauges and another $80 to recover the seats. Total $3500 it runs 60mph @ 5000rpm with a 12JC-B. It ain't much of a Hot Boat, but it got me hooked.
I've started on my next boat. I paid $500 for an old Beisemeyer hull and trailer with some Olds stuff. Sold the Olds stuff on Ebay for $375 so I'm at $125 on this one. I'll finish it up over the winter. My current boat will be donating parts to the project, don't have a set budget but I'm sure I'll surpass the $3500 I have in the old one.

OP and GG.
Been to CFW and Englebright quite a bit. CFW is fun for messing around, but the kids like to ski so we usually go to Englebright or Oroville.
We're always looking for some boating friends, so shoot me an e-mail next time you're going out and we'll try to hook up.
Going to Mohave for 10 days later this week, so I late July might work.
