Are Weiman and Rogers the same thing? I have a 1970 18' Weiman and it looks exactly like all the Rogers boats. I've been told they are related. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Jay

jdog, blown,
essentially yes ... they are identical. The Weiman was built by Roger's dad and possibly Roger too. I am not sure when Roger began building boats on his own. I have a '71 Rogers Cyclone. There are also some early Tahiti's that are identical and later on some Glencoe's that are identical and I am sure some others too. As you can see, our boats like many others were splashed by lots-o-folks.
As to your question about whether they are good boats ... certainly Weimans and Rogers are some of the best built boats. Our boats are not considered the optimum design though for all out speed and/or circle racing. The bows on our boats are known as deep entry bows. The boats can certainly be made fast but the deep entry bow makes them prone to severe bow steer and spinning out under the right conditions (high speeds). This does not make them bad boats, just ones that you have to pay more attention to, especially when decelerating from high speeds. The bottom itself came from the Glastron Aqua-Lift design.
There are some others on the boards that have more experience with these boats than I specifically Old Rigger and JackMc that I know of. JackMc raced one for a few years
I would be very interested in seeing some pics of your boats. Mine is a project at best right now  . Currently it is upside down in the garage for some bottom work. I am trying to beat the SD winter and get some gel on it before winter sets in. Last year it was -5 F on Halloween eek! .
Anyway, here's some pics of my heap

Corlish and Blown,
Thanks for the info. guys. I was told in the past that Roger Weiman took over from his dad in early seventies. I just wanted to see if anyone knew further. Blown, I love this boat. It's kind of heavy and solid and takes rough water well.
Corlish, My boat looks exactly like yours. Different colors of course, but same hull style. They have a deeper V up front than alot of others. I think that's why it takes rough water so well. Due to the solid design, it's not the fastest hull but it's real solid and cuts like a knife. I don't go that fast anyway. I have a ton of pictures, but there not digital and I don't know how to put them on the computer.

you guys have great hulls. i had a 71 cyclone and it rode like a cadillac. I believe that around 1970, Roger's dad sold him the business but not the name, hence the change from Weiman to Rogers. Old Rigger would know better than i. My parents were the original owner of my Cyclone and told me that Roger built the boats one at a time and that buyers were able to come down to the shop daily and check out their boat's progress. Part of the reason that Tahiti boat's share some of the same characteristics as Rogers is because the shops were near each other and Roger and Dick Shuster worked together to make a jet pump work right in the first v-bottom hull. Again, Old Rigger knows the story better than I.
Oh yeah if anyone needs 5-gallons of blue gel coat for a restoration project, ToddnJuzz has some bright blue that i didnt use on my boat. I can get pics if you like and will sell it cheap.

Searching through some old stuff and found this old thread. I've got a 74 Glencoe that is identical to these, from the thread appears the glencoe was splashed from the Rogers. Question - Did the Rogers have full length stringers or short ones? Mine's got the short stringers, and I guess that's the only complaint I have about it, like Cyclone said it rides like a Caddy, when the chop comes up I can still cut through while others are gettin beat to hell. Anyway, thanks in advance for any and all info.

A sequel to my pics above ... new gel on the bottom and sides. Trying to get it right side up on the trailer before the SD winter sets in.
Gel turned out ok for a first timer, nothing like Barney's or Todd's though I'm sure, still have a few spots that could use some more sanding and buffing. Pressure is on 'cause I think this will be one of the last weekends of nice weather. :p

My father has a '72 Delta Tiger that is the same looking boat. His boat gets stuck at 55mph. I did a Hill nose cone on the Holman Moody Volvo outdrive. I also took the Donzi 302hp out and replaced a mild 351c, and built side tanks to lighten the bow. Now I not even like sking behind it. How well do yours run?

Hey Todd -- thanks man! You nailed the home situation :p ... are you almost ready to -go, -eat supper, -put the kids to bed, -be done ?!? ... the answer is always the same ... just a little bit longer :D .
I think I am going to have touch some spots up on the sides, in the right light it looks like I have just started to sand through. There is a white primer under the off-white gel though so it is difficult to tell for sure.
The weather is great today, have some guys coming over in a couple of hours to help get it on the trailer ... time to go ice down the brew.
Squirtin -- that is a good question! I don't know, the only time that I have had this boat wet was to reposition it on the trailer when I picked it up eek! I have plans for a BBF stroker, but that is a way off at this point. Lord willing it will be wet by the end of next summer though.

I really have to slow down now and focus on school, but there are some serious trailer bunk issues. It seems to be resting on the inside front of the inner bunks and only the rear of the outer bunks ... what gives?!?!? Merely shimming up the rear of the inner bunks still leaves the hull unsupported in the center of that bunk.
Anyway ... it's got to be fixed.

i had the same trailer under my '71 and i ended welding-in an extra x-member to support the middle of the bunks. problem solved. boat is looking sweet man. keep the pics coming!

corlish,
the Rogers is looking great, nice job.
If you notice on a trailer on a later Rogers, the brace in the center on the long bunks is made so it's adjustable. This is something that Roger had specially done over at compettive, and those brackets were always backed off and left loose by us as the boat was being set on the trailer. Your early 71 might not have this type of set up, I know my old 71 didn't. It's more than likely an old A&M trailer which was made right across the street from Rogers shop. They weren't a custom trailer, so to speak, like a Competetive or the like.
Leave the bunks the way they are, you don't want anything putting pressure on the bottom of the hull where there shouldn't be. It was done like that for a reason, look at most Rogers that are still sitting on the trailers the way they should be...no hook. If you have to fudge the brackets around so they fit flush, do that, but don't add any brackets............justs my .02

Thanks! Mike and Old Rigger
After thinking some more about the trailer and boat ... there was quite a bit of rocker (5/16" on one side and 1/4") between strakes 1 and 2 (where the outer bunk lays) so I think that by taking that out, I have lifted the back of the boat up some which has left a similar gap at the inner bunks.
Confusing picture that I am trying to describe ... pics would be useful :(
