Through Transom Exhaust flaps

Does anybody know how important the exhaust covers are on my TT jet boat? When I bought the boat, it didn't have them. I thought they were needed so I bought some and put them on. My broth says my boat sounds like a helicopter taking off when I go and said I should take them off. What do you guys think?

Hey Neoburn,
I bought mine through Overton's. They came in a pair of black rubber with screwtype clamps. They hook onto the exhaust tip. I think they were $11.95 per pair. Two different clamp sizes if needed.
