I'm putting my Berkeley JG back together. New impeller, seals, bearings... I don't have a Berkeley repair book. What is the typical clearance between impeller and wear ring? Is the clearance between the shoulder on the wear ring and the mating surface on the impeller (measured by looking through the hand hole opening) or at the other end of the wear ring?

Usually, its about 25 thousands between the shoulder and along the side. This is info from a friend, so feel feel to check from someone else.

Good advice hwyman. .012 per side or .025 overall-Dave

Sounds like what you are talking about is your front clearance, go with .035 . Since you are using a shouldered wear ring you shouldn't have to worry about the impeller wear surface being shorter than the wear ring wear surface. (If that was the situation, you would set your .035 clearance on the back side). The .025 mentioned above is for the clearance on the diameter.
