Like the confidence there.I can do the same with a bbf also oh wait i went from 5200 to 5600 for under a 100 bucks and less than 500 in my motor total!BTW the pump was a fresh rebuild too. What did you do for 30.00?just curious

Hondo, I ran my 455 for 18 years and I know what it takes to make it survive. I just don't think there is any $30 trick that will work miracles on a "parts house reman" engine.
I have no doubt that with the right HP and impeller combo you can turn 5000 rpm. My concern is that the parts typically used in those engines are just not intended for that type of use. For any engine to survive those rpms for any length of time requires a little more than a stock reman.
I do wish you luck. Just keep a close eye on the gauges and your ear tuned for abnormal noises. Please don't push the limits just to prove a point. If something looks or sounds wrong, shut it down and check it out closely.
BTW, do you plan to share this trick with the other Olds owners out there?

You know...I bet a stock 455 could turn 5k really easy...it's just for how long that I'd be worried about.
Maybe he paid a kid $30 to turn his tach upside down?
I agree....enough already. What's the $30 deal?

I usually keep mine at a cruising range of 3100, high speed temporary pass at 4900. I let a friend drive mine and he's cranking it up to 5600. I was waiting for a bang, but she never skipped a beat. They can do it. Just don't try to do it for too long.

For 30 bucks? Probably 30 worth of 3 in 1 oil! So damn thin I guess it will zing to 5g. just don`t think it last longer than 10 minutes. Or ProForm! He musta bought the last of it. And you can run a garden hose on it with the valve covers off!
Gotta love those bench racing fags!

Or K&N Filters Cost Around $30.00 dont they
AnyWay Good Luck

Hey Hondo, I am not going against your word but I sure and the hell would like to know what mod you are going to use. I will be rebuilding my engine next week. I need all the help and tips I could use. By the way I will be running the pipecleaners in my pushrods to restrict my oil to the top end.

If you take a fresh rebuild out and try to max out the RPM on the first day you are going to do irrepairable damage to the emgine. I reccomend at least 3-5 Hrs at under 3500RPM, Better yet a full break in. Run the motor to at least 140 -160 degrees the shut it down, wait untill it completely cools down (several hours) and then do it again. then Keep it below 3500 Rpm for at least the first 5 hrs. This take a lot of diciplind but it will make a major difference in how the rings seat and thus performance and motor life. My opinion only but a widely held one.

I think i know what he did. It's got to be some oil return lines plumbed from the heads back down to the oil pan. That's the only $30 dollar (well less than that) fix I can think of to keep it from seizing at high rpms.
