Don't let him put one on unless he has the nozzle bored out of the bowl. It will slow him down if he doesn't.

Beached1 - If installing a place diverter with their new nozzle housing on a 12wj do you still need to bore or does their setup take care of this problem? Thanks for the info.

No, the WJ's nozzle is part of the bowl. The steering nozzle on the WJ is just for steering. Kinda like how most PWC's are set up. The Place, Jet-O-Vator or anything else are a diverter, steering and nozzle all in one. So, if you bolt on a place diverter without having the nozzle in the bowl taken out, your flow will be disrupted significantly. Water will be pushed through the stock nozzle, then expand into the Place adapter area, then pushed through the diverter. Once I had MPD bore out my WJ bowl and added a place diverter, it made a huge difference from the stock nozzle setup.
Hope this helps,

Beached, I've heard you say this before. What about the old (non-sealed) Place? I would think taking the bowl nozzle off would just make it leak more around the steering pivot. Got any pics of what you had done to yours?

No matter what you bolt on the back of a WJ (other than the stock steering nozzle of course) is bolting on a nozzle behind a nozzle. Two nozzles in line will slow you down. Here are some pics of what I did.
The bowl is bored out just to the vanes. No further. Also left the groove in tact so the stock O ring seal can still be used.

Jack @ MPD said that you can bore it out a little further to better match the Place Diverter adapter, but I liked using the O ring seal. And I made this little stuffer out of billett alumn instead. This just pops inside the place adapter and makes a nice smooth transition to the new place nozzle.

But what do I know, I have a Berkley now. Woohoo! :D

Beached 1 - How much did MPD hit you for boring down the nozzle? I see what you are saying now? Do you think the set up would work fine without that trick billet piece you made? Might be a dumb question but, was your pump out of your boat when it was bored down? Trying to avoid pulling pump if necessary? Thanks for the info.

I honestly can't remember what they charge. As I mentioned before MPD (or any other pump shop for that matter) will bore it out a little more to match up to the adapter. You don't need to do what I did with the billet piece and all.
You can remove the bowl from the pump without having to remove the whole pump.
Good Luck!

Beached 1 - Another question for you - do you have any contact info for MPD, I'd like to give them a call to see what the charge would be. I had my pump blueprinted about a year and a half ago at GS Marine and was told by Shoemaker that it was a bone stock 12wj, nothing more nothing less, so I'm afraid I'll be one of the unlucky ones that needs to have a little boring work done before I put on my place diverter. Damn - I was hoping for a simple bolt up installation!! I'm gonna check with GS to see what they would charge but want to have something to compare it to. Thanks in advance.
