I've used Meguiars cleaner wax for light surface scratches. It doesn't do as good a job as polishing, but it's much easier and less time consuming. Good Luck!!

Hey Woodster, I received this email from Root Beer Float Dave. He gives a more "professional" way of removing scratches. His method will require more time than the Meguiars, but the end result will be much better. Here it is.
Hey Nubbs,
Tell Woodster to buy some 3M Micro-polishing compound. It ain't cheap
but it
works great. He might try color sanding (wet sanding) with 1000grit
first.
This process followed by the 3M compound works wonders on bringing back
the
luster to hazy gelcoat also. Once the haze is taken care of, follow
with the
3M hand glazing compound instead of wax. Ask Jetboat Rich or Eric 455,
they
have seen my 18.5ft 1977 Hallet, Rootbeer brown metal flake with
tangerine/gold metal flake accents. It looks fantastic for a 25 year
old
boat.
Hope this helps, and hope to meet up some day on the water.
Dave
