im installing new gas tanks in my boat. i have the steel cylinder type. my questions is should i use some type of foam or rubber between the brackets to protect the tanks. im thinking about putting foam weather stripping on the inside of the bracket. what do you guys think... jawdrop

I think gas eats foam rubber.
Maybe find some fuelproof substitute!

I use red rubber gasket material. The stuff stands up to anything but a fire. jawdrop

I have aluminum cylinder tanks on my boat. There is nothing between the brackets (mounting straps) and tanks.

I don't know where you'd find it, but they used to have thin rubber strips that had a channel in them that wrapped around the hold down straps. You might try some place like West Marine for starters and go from there.

I don't know how wide or thick your straps are but I used big heat shrink tube.

you could buy that plastic-dip paint. Its pretty cool and you just dip the part in it, let the part dry and then its got a 1/8-inch thick rubber coating on it.

I just took the tanks out of my brendella...whoever had it put that thick black plumbers tape around the tank then trimmed it right at the brackets so you couldnt see it...Tanks are perfect and its a 77 model the tape was still pliable. They use that stuff to wrap exposed pipes and it looks like 2 inch wide electrical tape you can find it at most hardware stores.
