Me and my friend took his boat after a few changes like (new dove heads, stainless rocker arms, tunnel ram,2-550 cfm carters, and distributor)on his 460 ford. We were comming out of no ake zone and put the dirverter all the way down and nailed the gas. The rpm shot up and we were hardly going. We let off the gas and it plained up after about 8 seconds. We noticed at WOT he gained 400 more rpm's with the mods done on the engine. He is now spinning 5200 rpm. Top end is good but the problem is it feels like pulling a refrigerator from the bottom of the lake at take off or at crusing speeds.Top end feels pretty strong but bottom end sucks a$$. Would it need a impeller change? Is this kind of thing normal for that much change on the engine? What should we do?

I don't really know shit from shinola, but it sounds like you blew the pump out (major cavitation). What size impellar is in his pump?

I think its the carters http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif Just remember, as long as the motor does not feel bogged or is not building up rpm's, chances are it is in the pump.

Might try taking off with less down-nozzle. Perhaps his setup doesn't require as much as he is using.

It sounds to me like your tolerances are shot. check out the wear ring. If the motor is coming out anyway now is the time. I think it was proved a long time ago that you don't need a wear ring for the top end. Just to get out of the hole. Sounds like this may be some sort of problem like that. Either that or you just have way to small of an impeller. Good luck keep us posted.

First remove all the rocks, ropes, small children etc. from the impellar.

Leave the small children in the impeller, they act like lube...Ok just kidding. Sounds like it's time to get the pump touched up. HBJET can set you up with some good Agressor....Ah hell, never mind.

Was it a single or dual axle trailer that was still attached to the boat?
Ok, I would really look into the pump. When what the last service? What impeller are you running and what kind of loader grate are you using? Find out those things and then we can send you in the right direction.

He needs penguins. At least two of them. I see this all the time with attempted space travel.

Hey pipesclean,I wish I would have made it for havasu but I failed. It will be fully done in 3 weeks. I had done alot since feburary. All I need to do is buff out the paint and install the iron in the rear.I will post the pics as soon as I can get my old ass scanner to work.
