What an ungodly pain in the ass this was! I had to keep going back for new fittings until I had what I wanted! Then I had a custom bracket made to attach the remote oil filter to the head so I could easily access it. Here's the pics!

cool, where did you get the cooler? Boatman's INET Marine. very cool place. They got me exactly what I needed. I have some other friends that used them for their oil coolers, so I went with them.

hey DIGGLER! how ya doing. I ran out and took some pics of my oil cooler before the rain starts. eek! I can relate on this one it took me a day of messing around with fittings and location. but it was well worth it. that oil cooler works great. you will be happy you did it. we should hook up at the lake sometime im just across the bay by the S.F. airport. :D http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/506/115a11-med.JPG http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/506/115a9-med.JPG

Hey, looks good, but I have a question for ya!
For the water lines, do yo have the cooler plumbed between the water line that exits the motor? I only ask because that's HOT water and I would think the ideal location for an oil COOLER would on the water line between the pump and the motor.

HBjet Nope, this is fresh raw water on the source side of the block. I re-routed my hot water on the other side of the boat. Hey Sanger Mike, send me an e-mail at derkdevries@hotmail.com and let's get some boating in!

What oil temps are you running that needs a cooler?

Sanger, that's the way I was talking about and the way I've only seen them plumbed.
Diggler, are you saying your getting water from the block to go into the cooler, or is the water comming from the pump?

HBjet The water comes from the pump, enters the oil cooler then to the block. The waste/hot water then goes through another tube on the other side of the engine and out the back.
BTW, I found this awesome place to buy fittings for relatively cheap. www.hfeweb.com (http://www.hfeweb.com)

I actually plumbed mine the opposite way. I plumbed my cooler using the exit water from the block. I had removed the oil cooler entirely when I restored the thing a couple years back, but after a lengthy run at throttle the oil pressure would drop dangerously low as soon as the rpm's dropped to idle. After a minute or so, the pressure would come back from around 25psi to around 50.
I liked the idea of having the oil temp get above 212 degrees ( water boils at 212 ) so that any water in the oil would steam off, but I didn't like that pressure drop.....so I compromised.
I've has it out on several trips since and I like the results. I can't tell you what the oil temp is because I don't have a guage, but I'm considering installing one.

Your oil will always run above 212 degrees when the engine warms up. The engine in my boat (21 eliminator)runs around 240 degrees cruising. On a blast run the temp goes up to 280 plus. With out the cooler the temp would go as high as 320 plus on a blast run. Its best to plumb the oil cooler to cold water from the jet. JIM
