Cool Beans,
My mills done and I finally figured how to post a pic. (I hope) The rocker setup isn't on yet in this pic but I went full roller.

I'm doing a lot of other stuff including rolling it over soon and will keep everybody posted. It's going to be around 400 HP Peace Man

Great looking motor. It sort of inspires me to start "my" winter projects, today! wink

Yes that's a 455. Pretty modest build weighing in at 4k for machine work and parts. It's punched 40 over 9 1/2 to 1 compression ratio. :D Should run great on good pump gas. Comp cam .518 lift, .244 duration. 110 deg. seperation. I run logs so no water problem. Hyd. lifters crane roller rockers, springs are 310 lbs. full open. I had the rods and mains double fitted to the journals and tha caps (spendy). An 8 qt. pan.
High volume, high pressure oil pump From MONDALLAR cha ching, and I drilled and tapped the heads to accept 3/8 NPT and welded returns int the pan. I opened op the stock oil returns and added a full windage tray. No fancy restrictions at all. I want the lifeblood to flow freeley. Pump it up there and get it back down there I think. argue Whattayathink? No huge ponies just wanted to freshen it and add a little power and retain reliabiliy. Peace Man.

Sidewound, it all sounds pretty good. Personally, I would have installed the Mondello oil restrictors. In fact I ran my Olds for 18 years set up very similarly, but with restrictors. They are not designed just to reduce oil volume to heads. They essentially redirect some of what would have gone to the top end into the crank and rods. This provides extra lubrication as well as cooling for the main and rod bearings/journals.

Good to see another olds in progress wink I will be posting pics this weekend on mine :D that rig looks sweeeetttttt! I am doing basically the same thing except mine is .60 over with a redesigned stock pan(now a 10qt with tray). I want to get the olds done so I can start the 454 bbc. Looks good keep us informed.

seeing that you guys are doing the olds thing have you checked out this site.......there are some very interesting things about Mondello and his side kick Lynn..... seems that Joe no longer owns Mondello Performance but there is a lot of olds info on the site
http://www.realoldspower.com/
We had a motor done by Lynn a few years back and the thing never would run more than a month and we were taking it apart

Hey sidewound,
I think that engine might surprise you. I would guess closer to 450HP. Those restricters that everyone talks about do nothing for overhead oiling problems, just limits oil going to the cam bearings. You have a big pan and as long as your external drains flow well I think you'll be fine. :D

What pistons do you have in that thing. I am thinking about bumping up the compression in mine. I am thinking about going with Speed Pro forged model L2323F pistons. Summit lists them as 9.6-11.22:1 compression. I guess it depends on what heads. Does anyone know what the compression would be with Edelbrock heads?

Hey,
Thanks for the interest. If I get more hp than I bargained for that's FINE with me. I'm cant remember the brand on the pistons at the moment just the 9 1/2 : 1 numbers. Dig this, the motor was the original build, 30 yrs old. It had GM marked pistons marked 8 to 1 one one bank and
9 to 1 on the other bank. Must've been a friday deal. Can't bitch it ran 30 years. Not much goin on at the moment so Im postin some pics on a project I finished earlier. All new parts and polished and painted. Cost me 12 bucks. Peace Man
