My buddy just picked one of these up with two EDELBROCK 1404 500CFM carbs. He has a stock 455 and I was wondering if anyone knows if this will give a performance increase or decrease. I have 455 too which is stock except for the .30 ovrbore and the 296H comp cam. He also does not have headers. Any advice, experiences with this setup?
Thanks,
Mark

It will run (rich). He will cut his gas mileage in half. Power will be limited by his lacking in the other areas. :)

a bigger cam, more cam timing, some port work, and headers and it will be a nice increase. besides. they look cool. :D

I've got that manifold on my hydro (Vdrive) with 3 to 4 inch risers and have just put edel 1405 600s on it.. With the old afbs it ran really hard on the top, 5 to 6k, but stumbled bad in the lower and mid ranges, as the carbs were old, and I think clogged up inside. I don't have alot of cam or head work, and use wet logs into ott.. Afbs, like some holleys are actually vacuum activated secondaries, (the upper butterfly). I think you or your friend would benifit from the change. Without the risers your torque range will be lower than mine, but in a jet thats OK. The bottom end will surprise you, mass torque...Moneypit

I have a T-Ram on a BBC with logs. I do have some head work and small dome pistons. I can turn 5500. This is in a V-Drive.
I think the carbs you got are 450 cfm,s. They are designed for T-Rams. Mine are very good on Gas.

Cool thanks for the info! We will see if we can get his boat moving with that setup. Right now I leave him behind quick, we both have 1976 Tahiti Tigers, 18'. Both have 455, but I have the cam, fresh motor, and a torker with a 650 Holley, turn 5200 rpm and hit about 63mph. My pump needs to be freshened up for sure.
I found a tunnel ram that I am considering, but I will wait to see if he likes the dual quad, if not try it out on mine and go from there. Tunnel ram looks nice though! But I definitely want whatever performs best, looks come second.

The tunnel ram looks cool plus i gained more midrange throttle response out of my 455 olds. I like tunnel rams but they are a bitch to set up(dialing the carbs).
