well I'll tell you what the fastest jet I've ever driven is! My cousin has a 900 pony sleekcraft! That think flys to say the absolute least. You hit the throttle and you can feel that cracking of the seat bolts jumping. We're guessing it'll get over 110 but we haven't radared it. All we know is that my dad's old V-drive is the only thing faster on the river. Unfortunatly we can't find the beast V-drive. cry cry

Best combo has to be pro-stock engine(1000 hp) with light hull. 500 hp shot of nitrous and balls of steel. 122 mph jet boat w/o the nitrous

Here's Jim Sampica's Cheyenne tunnelhull. It's got a PSI centrifugal Blower and injected running on gas. I believe he ran 136 mph and in the high 7's last year at Red Bluff. He doesn't check in often but this picture was on a post for this board.
http://www.blackbearracing.com/download/12dscf0002-med.jpg
He's detuned it a little since retiring it last year, but it's his everyday lake boat and still hell on fast! I believe they told him he couldn't run it anymore in sanctioned events, unless he put a capsule on it.
Jim's a regular with our group here in Phoenix AZ and can be found many times at Lake Pleasant on Friday evenings.

But then he is part of the West Coast (MPD & DNE sponserd by HBjet) conspiracy

Oh I asked Tom about that Tunnel Vision Placecraft in the picture above and he said he doesn't think he laid it up unless it has since been re-painted and of course given that name since he built it.

Before Scotty Lumbert moved to Top Fuel Hydro, he and his Dad raced a Placecraft splash in Blown Fuel Jet. It was called Public Nuisance, and run mainly here on the East coast with the old ADBA, and the SLDBA. It was sponsored by Don's Pump Service out of Columbus, Ohio, Jet Pump Guru. I'm not positive but I believe I recall that boat running 156 mph in the Quarter mile, at least that, maybe faster. I think that back in its heyday, 150 mph speeds were common in BFJ.

jw I think right now he is bracket racing in the 9 second class. I know he ran eliminator class last year. The driver is paralized from the waste down due to a motorcycle wreck a couple years ago so the boat is now rigged with hand controls on the steering wheel. Bobby Gelske his brother in-law runs in mod eliminator class. here is some photos http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/523mikewardjr-med.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/523bobbygelske-med.jpg

The fastest Jet ever was going placesII (Placecraft tunnel). It ran somewhere up in the 170's if I remember right. I would have to ask my dad. He held the record for a long time till they retired it (which I think is dumb) thats a different story though. Anyway yes now harold bruce boy holds it at like 147 or something like that. I just don't know how you can call that a BFJ record when it doesn't even come close to what was set years ago. My pops was setting up boats back then with Harmin Marine in BFJ that were running faster then that. Anyone remember Doug Durnell or Rated X?

bense doug durnell is one of my friends. he used to drive blown fever in bfj. his boat actually still holds the record in ihba with shannen stewart driving. Just so you guys know that boat harold jr. drives is not his , he just drives it,owner is carl linderman. i also believe there is a bit of controversy about that one pass he made that set a record, someone said something about a bird going through the lights resulting in a bunk et, they had been running very consistant every race and then ran that one huge number and went right back to the old consistant numbers and could not back it up.I really do miss watching the fuel jets run , rumor has it one of the njba guys is contemplating building a carbon fiber placecraft with a capsule and a real serious motor possibly for the ubfj class! how cool would that be? As far as fastest on the boards what about duane from htp? he is fast and posts on ***boat frequently. Well its nice to see a mellow thread after all the aggro dyno threads.later

Not sure of the price. He raced it at NJBA two years ago, was pointe champ in 10sec class. Good shape, all the goodies.. let me know if you want more info.

Randy you throw enough up and HP along with conditions to any boat and you can have problems. As far as I know they are pretty safe in respect to how fast they are going. I would rather be in a placecraft then a CP tunnel any day of the week. Now gullwings are a different story but not going to be as fast.

wrightnow, i already have a tunnell that im very happy with, i was just trying to help a friend look for a boat, he has a cp tunnell now thats at 440lbs and its a little heavy for what he wants to do with it and now its for sale with the intake and thats all, it ran 9.40s with under 800 horse . Anyways i met bill bacon at supercross this year , that guy is pretty cool and i hear "payback" was pretty fast. whats his new ride going to be?
this one is now for sale, if anyone is interested i can give you his number

Aren't Placecraft tunnels the safest tunnel out there? I heard something along those lines somewhere.... Just wondering what everyone else thought!
HBjet I would have to disagree! I think the safest tunnel jet is a 21' edge or daytona. Damn things take alot to wake them up! I'm talking about a 19' boat because a tunnel safer then a 21 would then be a 25, and then a 30'...... you see.
Just in the drag boat racing classes where the speeds reach over 130mph for the 19 footers!
HBjet I think the blown fuel jet record in a placecraft was 158 goin places?

I have only raced one time this year. Been way to busy with my new biz. No time to work on the boat let alone race it. I plan on racing the last 2 or 3 races. So what kinda boat and power is Phill looking at. How fast is he planing to go next year?

Yeh, Bill is a good guy, he went in with another friend and purchase a capsule from texas, They are looking to run around 180mph, should be wild.. Your boats has been down at MPD right, the tunnel white blue and black. Nice boat if that is yours, when is DNE going to be done with your motor?

HBjet Well considering the stretch runs at the drags & it is a jet I wouldn't throw it in with a 25' daytona... To me running 8.50's at 126 qualifies as a respectable "drag" boat & probably fairly safe at that! :)

Once again I think its a pretty good "safe" tunnel jet!

The worlds fastest jet is a placecraft and still holds the record 165 + and they were a very heavy boat made strickly for fuel racing! we just sold frank place a new benz so i got the whole story very interesting talking about the old drag days with full fields of boats!!

BB1 I believe Ken Francis ran a Top Fuel Jet a few years back that got into the low 180's at a race in the midwest. However, he was not running 50/50 (more like 80/20) so no record set.... Boat got awful scary at those speeds..... There's much more to the story but out of respect, I won't go there. But, unofficially, I would definitely say that Ken Francis had the fastest jet boat.

You also need a longer ride plate. You have a heavy boat that needs a bigger wing for lift! Maybe talk to jack about ways to try to extend your pump out the back further also!

SHOULD JUST BUY A NEW HULL You can do what ever you want, however I think your current set up is pretty unique! From what I saw at parker there is a lot you could improve on before you spend the time putting lifting strakes on it! You are not going to see magic from 1 shoe to the next. You should stick with the back cut shoe, lower it down, lengthen your ride plate, extend your pump, a quit worring about hp! :)

Yeah, I have a back up shoe and along with the droop it really lifts my boat. I need to play with my shoe settings though because when I back off the throttle ever so slightly to slow down, the boat just starts to hop, and it's not the most fun doing that eather when your at 80+ mph. I had Jack remove 1/16" off the top of my shoe and we are going to see what it does now.
Good Luck Dave!
