I have a buyer for my 455 Olds engine. I live in Arizona and the buyer is in Texas, and i've never shipped that much iron. Who has the best rates, and how do you pack it. I'm building a plywood crate, but that adds extra wieght. Is anyone making a run from Phoenix to Dallas and could toss it in their truck for a fee? Any ideas?

Most the frieght carriers have frt calculators online I believe. That should give you an idea of what you're looking at.

Make sure you ship it from one business to another. It will make it about 1/3 less.

Any ideas?Mopar, I was going to purchase a blown BBC and I checked on shipping rates from Houston, TX to Memphis, TN(Approx 660 miles) It was going to be approx $180.00 business to business. I'm adding the website for the company I've used them three times now to ship heavy items I've bought/sold through ebay. Don't accept their first quote!! I always call them back and complain that it's too much... You don't need to actually make a crate, just get a heavy duty pallet, cut some 2x4 or 4x4 to block up the sides of the engine. Bolt these pieces of lumbar with lag bolts, then strap the engine down. Afterwards, get cardboard material, and cover the engine. Hope this help, Ivan

Also try BestOvernight and Pilot Freight. I've used both companies many times over without any problems.
Lakesmodified is right on with the shipping preparation. Maybe shrink wrap the motor before you brace it up.

Yeah, it's for Bigdaddy. Would like to get it out to him soon. It's a sweet motor, and needs a good home.
