View Full Version : What cam do i need for my 496 chevy

I need a cam reconmendation for my 496 bbc. The engine consist of the following parts.
4.25 4340 steel crank
.60 over 10.5 to 1 pistons
990 heads 2.19 intake 1.88 exhaust exhaust ports have been ported and polished
weiland stealth or performer rpm manifold (have both)
basset headers
holley 800dp carb
The engine is being built for my 21.5 daycruiser jet. If you need more info let me know

Comp Cams makes a few hyd marine cams for jet boats I'm real happy(when my boat runs) with the
#11-240-4, 564/567 lift 278*/292* @.006 lift. Comp says the power band is 2000 rpm to 6000rpm.
They make one more a little wilder than that, but the one I have pulls strong from 1800 rpm to my top rpm of 5400.
Many choices but I like this one, I bought the complete kit including the roller tip rockers.

We special grind a lot of camshafts for jet boats. Give me a call and I'll help you with this. There are too many do's and dont's to try to type it all out on a board like this.
