No, that boat was made only by Haskell, it was a fast little boat, it has a relief in the back on each side of the boat, it just was to small and low in the water, people just bought bigger cruisers, I still know where the plug is. Jim Brock

Sugestions? YA buy my 466. 10-1 trw, dove 3 heads, huge ports and valves, roller rockers, polished TR-2 600's, headers mounts, it has about 8 hrs. on it. I traded a buddy for it and now I'm selling it.

Eric, I remember the Haskell Brand. I almost bought one at the L.A. boat show in about 1980. They had this Mini-cruiser, a 19' and a 17' most were set up with Panther's. As I recall, your's has two "steps" very close to the transom which is supposed to give them pretty good speed. How is your resto coming? Let's see some current pics.

If the gel is not to rough it looks like it could be color sanded and buffed out nice. With a fresh interior and a powerplant you could have yourself a winner. The trailer looks pretty hammered but if it holds the boat, the bearings are packed, and the bunks are good-screw it. It just sits in the parking lot anyway.

Eric, My brother, Witchcraft on the boards has a witchcraft model that looks very similar and has a panther with 454 I think. stock it gps's at 68. It scoots. You can em him and he could help ya out. He painted it, did the interior and it is pretty sharp. :D

Send those beers over, the first song you remember is "What a long Strange Trip it Been" by non other than the Grateful Dead.
Thank for the beer. Next time make it a little tougher!

Havasu Barneys work will soon be done (a total makeover) and I'll start posting pictures here soon. Wanted to pick some brains of those have Haskell knowledge. JIM BROCK? I know he replied here before. I want to know if the "cut out" pad in the back has any handling characteristics at speed. ie chine walk or porposeing eek!
The Panther Jet is out and the transom and bottom have been glassed in. Thinking of an Aggressor or Berkely pump set back. Any replies appreciated.
:D :D :D Eric

Eric...you may want to inquire over on the Banderlog board http://www.banderlog.com/cgi-bin/banderlog/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID1&conf=DCConfID1 and see if anyone knows anything about them over there, there are some experts who've been racing jets for many years that hang out there

EricinNV,
Might you have a better shot of the back of the boat showing those full steps??? I'd appreciate it. It looks pretty interesting...i like it for sure!! I wonder what old HBjet(bottomguru) thinks about the thought put into this one??
thanks--chet

Eric,
I will look at the magazines to see if there is any Haskell stuff.
If I can remember, Haskell just had ads and maybe one or two write-ups.
I will keep you posted.

Chet, you don't know what the **** you are talking about, so can you post anything that doesn't include my name, or some remark about me?
Eric, do you have an E.T. as to when the boat might be finished? Also, did you get a different pump for it yet?

A bout 3 years ago we pulled out a panther, and put in a setback dominator, with a bb chevy was a fast little boat, i am redoing the pump now, he is selling the boat his wife wants a bigger to low to the water, there wern't to many of these cruisers made, they looked nice and went fast, almost all of them were panther jets, Jim Brock

Thanks to all that have replied so far. Before I go too deep in my bank account, I'm really curious if anybody has drove one and did it have a setback pump? Here's a couple a pics of the "steps". http://free.***boat.net/ubb/Avatars/Reader_Rides/Jet_Boats/post-44-79441-Image004.JPG http://free.***boat.net/ubb/Avatars/Reader_Rides/Jet_Boats/Image0131.JPG

Eric, if memory serves, the guy who owns Panter Jets also built the Haskell hull in the 70's/80's.
They are located in southern Oregon. They might have some info for you.
Good luck.

I see the transom has been glassed over. What is going in place of the panther? Hull looks fast. Hope to see you at the river this summer!

That hull is trick...very interesting design. Thanks for the pic.
As for you HB, i'm sure if i did something like that to my hull you'd say something negative about it...mr. primadonna. Only 87 at 5500 you know. :D Nice language btw.

Hey Eric, I never noticed this thread; glad it was brought back to the top. That boat looks really cool and unique. I absolutely love it when people restore the old ones. Makes for a more unique and custom boat. This might have been answered, but what kind of propulsion are you going with? Please say berkeley jet :)

As for propulsion, I've been doing some homework and probably will go with Aggressor or Berkeley. Now it just comes down to the best deal I can get. :D It will be set back, hooked up to a normally aspirated Dart Big M. At least that's the plan this week :D

Bump.
Any response from Panther on the high speed tendencies on this hull?

Mohavekid:
Bump.
Any response from Panther on the high speed tendencies on this hull? Yes, this is from PANTHERJET MARINE.....
"They made a great boat and the 20' is extremely fast for its size.
We did buy many of their molds from them and produced them for many years.
But we built a larger 20' than the one you have.
They were a Mom & Pop boat company that built a few thousand good boats
that obviously last a very long time.
They went out of business is the early 80's."
And his reply when asked about set back pump application and spinout
"Leave the hull alone! Its one of the best and fastest of that era. Depending on
when the boat was built and I don't remember the cutoff, the one and only problem
that boat had was spinning out in high speed turns. Be careful until you know it
will hold, but we can help with that if thats the case.
Leave the engine/jet in the original location. You have nothing to gain
by changing the center of gravity of the boat. The original designer knows
more about that boat than all the others who claim to know more.
You can get two things from us that will help but not eliminate the problem:
A long fin cavitation plate that has two 4" long fins that will help hold the rear
of the boat where it is supposed to be and steering rudders that attach to the swivel nozzle."

Can't wait to see the rest of your project.
