What's the latest/greatest fuel pump set up for a carburated 450hp 454 with a 850cfm carb? Mechanical or electric? What brand?
And why do I ask, well I just busted mine  eek!

KC, I will be running a Holley Electric Blue. I will always have a mechanical in my tool box just in case though. They eventually both fail. I think that the mechanical is more tried and true for us "lower horsepower guys" (<600 Hp). I think electric fuel pumps are just for looks unless you are running some real Hp. IMO, whatever way you go, you should be OK...Joe wink

I've ran a mechanical fuel pump on my 675hp BBC in my drag car and never had a problem. Pump has feed dual 660s and now a 1050 at 7000rpm. You can buy a good Hi pressure (14psi) pump, regulator and light weight push rod for under a $125. They have a heavier spring to allow higher rpm usage and require a pressure regulator. If your running a roller cam you'll need a brass tipped push rod.
I have the same setup in three different vehicals so I bought a spare pump. I still have it new in the box ten years later.

i would recommend a mechanical just because it is clean and easy, you dont have to find a place to mount it and you have zero wiring to run, and you never have to worry about an electric motor, or wiring failure... besides with a motor like yours you should have no problem with fuel supply... heres the one i have... fuel pump (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=24877&view=2047) and i feed a 454 with an 850 dp on it, i have no fuel pressure problems whatsoever in over 2 years, and it needs no regulator which is one less thing to go wrong :D

Mechanical - Get the six check valve Edelbrock or equivalent. I bought this one from Clay Smith Cams. See if summit or Jegs has one for your engine. It will feed 2 dominators.

Edelbrock Victor is what I run. Jegs #350-1712 $78.99. They have a performer series thats $5 cheaper #350-1722 and doesn't require a regulator(6psi). I haven't tried that one but I would guess it to be good to 5000rpm.

Went with a Holley mechanical marine for BBC from Jegs right at a $100.00 with shipping.
Thanks for the input
