Where do you get the black carpet that is on the inside of engine covers and is it a special kind(flame retarded)?
Any info would be appreciated.

You might try calling some of the manufacturers and see where they get the stuff they use. :D

all the stuff i have seen is standard marine carpet glued on with like 3m trim adhesive..

I imagine our compartments are different but we used some sound deadening material that has a foil face on it to keep the sound/heat in the compartment. Here's a lousy pic of it.

If it is a full hatch, under a sun deck type flat area, then why not go with polished sheet aluminum so it reflects the image of the engine when open? Or even go with the diamond tread aluminum across the under side of the hatch. However, aluminum it might be a bit heavy for the shocks when holding it open. Then you can buy the electric ones (it never ends).
