View Full Version : Dyno Discreprency?

i found this info on the engine master's website regarding Westech Performance Group:
"THE PLAYING FIELD
How level did we make it? We did the best we could. By working at Westech, we took great strides toward equality before ever firing the first engine. The SuperFlow engine dyno at Westech has gained a reputation for being stingy. It's been accused of reading low, but its calibration is checked on a regular basis and we know the powers-that-be at SuperFlow keep a close eye on it. Our experience has shown that it is always in a perfect state of calibration and its numbers can be relied on. The technicians at Westech understand the importance of accurate testing, and they also know how horsepower claims can sometimes be inflated. For this reason, they've nicknamed their dyno "The Polygraph Room," since it's proven to be quite the lie detector."
this was an excerpt from take from the Engine Master's Challenge, a nationwide shootout for engine builders conducted on various Superflow engine dynos. The finalists ship their motors to Westech for the final run-off. But its all BS right so why even read?
Here's the link for those who want to read the full story.

Never once did I call either one of your boats a RACE boat, believe me I know the difference between a river boat vs race boat more than you could ever imagine. Thats why I said it would look retarded with you guys all suited up making passes in these types of ski boats. I have three boats, two for the river, one a 1981 Hondo T-Deck and a 1993 Cole Superhawk 22'I/O and one that I race at Ming with NJBA a 1987 Canyon Marine flat.

Yeah back in the 70's, before the tunnels started coming out, those hulls were fast in their day. Don Jones ran a Rodgers up until 2 years ago in 9.00 bracket and BGJ and it ran pretty good. Believe me, your boat runs well for what it is, a turn key deal with full interior and bimni top Iam not disputing that. I grew up around this stuff my whole life, as a kid I use to watch my grandpa race at Marine Stadium in Unblown Gas Flat in the early 70's and been racing on the Parker Strip since the late 80's with my river flats, so I feel I have alot of knowledge in the race boat field.

I already stated in my first post Iam all about safety, but this is alittle extreme with the boats we are talking about. Yes Iam well aware that a boat that runs as well as these two do can hurt you quickly and you have to respect them. Just in all my years boating and racing on the strip have I never seen dudes all suited up in hot rodded jet v-bottoms that run what these boat run.

I usually wear my Lifeline for anything faster than my daycruiser, or when someone else is driving. I have it, why not wear it? Granted, I got it for my Daytona, but have felt uncomfortable at relatively low speeds in some different hulls I have ridden in, and was happy I had it.
Do you have any idea how stupid a Navy SEAL feels wearing a Pro-Tec helmet doing simple surf passage in Zodiacs? This is super easy stuff, in 8 feet of water.
But a buddy of mine died four years ago because he got dinked on the head by an outboard when the boat broached, and since it was pitch black and we don't wear lifejackets while operating he got knocked out and drowned in the zone. Ooops. Since then, we wear helmets.

"wipe your chin" you like saying that dont you?Bottomline is a jacket should be worn at 90mph on the river.Ive been knocked out from a 68 mph impact in the ocean while racing a jetski A 90 mph impact is not going to be pretty.Being the "ive seen it all" river guy and son a of a racer bla bla bla just like the rest of us you should know the river is getting more and more dangerous every weekend. After seeing 4 wrecks now in front of my river house, one resulting in a death and after pulling a drunk chick out of the river while floating face down in needles after passing out from drinking too much i think jackets are very neccasary these days wether its a chute jacket or an orange coast guard one, its not like they are goping to drive around all day long in there lifelines, come on.

We'll see. i do know they have an 18 wheeler now and are really stepping up the pace. I think 2 years tops and he's top fuel. Of course they will probably need a sponsor for that. Also for your info I am having my motor built by DNE and dynoed by Westech, I have built several of my own motors and cant even come close to detail that Dave @ DNE puts into them. If dyno's are so bad why would the current Top Fuel F/C champ (John Force) dyno all his motors? He has been dynoing his motors for years and has learned so much from the dyno (just ask Austin Coil) thats just my .02

Hustler:
(John Force) dyno all his motors? He has been dynoing his motors for years and has learned so much from the dyno (just ask Austin Coil) thats just my .02 Hustler I called Austin Coil and he said that he doesn't use WesTech! I told him that DNE is the world`s greatest Engine builder and he was ROTFLHAO then he said tell good Dave to come see me!
You must have a name wrong??? John and Austin have their own program.

By the way Omega, the best thing you could do for that boat is dump that YJ and go with the AT energizer kit. I did it to mine last year and so far it has been the best money I spent on my boat

Hey Jackass ever wonder how they came up with the combination to rebuild those motors? It's alot cheaper for them try differant things on a dyno than it is to haul everything to the track and pay for the safty crews to be there. here's another little tid bit for you the motors are dynoed on alcohol not nitro.

and can back what they say.Ok, my motor made X amount of power on dyno, but the only way to back that up is by video taping it making a pass, and then you would know for sure what HP it's really making.
Did I mention I have a plumber friend? Maybe he could sit with you and watch that video too. He may know what changes I need to make to my impeller by looking at the roostertail. Oh, I also have a carpenter friend who is good with sand paper. Maybe he can look at the wake from my boat and be able to tell how much hook I have.
Well, I'll try to get some video this weekend, and you, Omega, The Plumber, and The Carpenter can all get together and tell me what my boat really needs!

for got again...lol
JackAss :D
BTW... you better tell them that they wont get the true reading on alcohol. So dynoing it on alcohol would be a waist of time.OH but wait, then we have the corrected numbers wink
Do you think that the number`s can be corrected after using alcohol ? There is a BIG difference between 100%alcohol and 90%Nitro
