Mesa Airlines (America West flight partner) will begin serving Ontario with two daily flights to Lake Havasu, and one additional daily flight to Phoenix. I have a contact with the airlines. He is working out the details and will e mail me so I can post. Personally, I would NOT expect jet service, but the Beechcraft 1900.
I figure a CanadaAir regional jet could do the trip in 40 minutes tops.
A real shame they are not flying to JWA or Long Beach!
A Dash 8 would be better but weight restrictions in hot climate limit seating.
We will see.

Mesa has got to come up with something to do with all those parked 1900's. :D

That's friggin' awesome!
Now I can make my friends pull the boat out there...while I'm sippin' cocktails!
Do we have to dust a couple crops on the way there?

A couple years agao I flew into Havasu with Mesa and thought the plane needed work. It plane interior looked old and the engine was leaking oil. I think I will drive.

TCHB:
the engine was leaking oil. "That's not a leak, it's a seep."
"If it isn't seeping oil, it doesn't have enough in it!!" :D

A buddy flew Laughlin Air. It was a turbo prop, He said it was the scariest flight of his life. He was in the Army 8 years, flew all over the world and did 30 something jumps. Never again he said. He took a cab to Vegas and booked a flight on a jet back to L.A.

I fly from JWA to LHC via PHX about every two or three weeks. I have been stranded twice at PHX. After complaining the AM West I received a partical refend and a nice voucher. I just rented a one way car to LHC.
As far as 1900's, never had a problem. I would caution most to avoid flights during monsoon season.
Takes about 55 minutes to fly from PHX to LHC.

how soon is this going to start and how much is it going to cost I think the LHC Herald mentioned 60-90 days before they begin but no price was mentioned.

OK, lets take an informal survey.
First, Beechcraft 1900 it is.
If the flights begin to fill up near 100%, we could see the 36 seat Dash 8 or a jet.
Would you take a RT for a price poit of $150, or $125, including taxes.
Your thoughts. I will report the results to my contact at Mesa Airlines.
We could all benifit from this. Like I said, I fly often, and let me tell you the lack of stress by flying...

I'd do it for $125. It costs me around $90 now for a round-trip (from Lake Forest) in my Suburban. (I would still have to drive to Ontario and pay for parking, which takes some of the luster off the flying deal.) Thanks for asking! -CS

They will never get that 1900 to capacity in the summer time. (out of Havasu) I used to fly that plane in a freight hauling capacity(8 years ago) and the heat puts a strangle hold on the takeoff weight.

Personally, since I am a SAAB dealer, I wish that AW airlines flew the Saab340 or larger but no such luck. The 1900 is a fine aircraft and have flown to Phoenix from Carlsbad,Ca in it.
Could be a huge time saver instead of the drive each weekend.
Read about it a few weeks ago when in LHC and look forward to seeing the service off the ground. :D

You are right, it is a great airplane. But are you sure you do not have it mixed up with the Dash 8 that Mesa used to fly into CRQ?

I am surprised there are restrictions on Dash 8's.
We completed cert testing for the S400 pneumatics system a few years ago and I know design conditions are for ISA + 30C hot day single engine climb out below MSL. Of course, the new PW150's may have something to do with that. The S100 and S200's may have hot day limits that I'm not aware of.

Last year I flew to Yuma several times on the 8. On one 107 degree humid day we had to depart Phoenix with a short load, about 4 empty seats as I recall. I have never seen the 1900 run short due to the temp. Mesa told me this is the reason they used it to HII (Havasu).
Keep the comments comming.
Thursday I will mail the contact with your input.
Thanks

You may very well be right, I thought it was the 1900 since I'm one of those guys who looks at the info card to see what I'm sitting in but very likely mixed it with some other flight.
By the way, I love those commuter flights, some are like a roller coaster ride. The wife might wear her teeth out on some of them but I get a kick out of it. LAX to San Diego during strong Santa Ana's was the best ride eek! :) :D

The 1900D doesn't have nearly the perfomance problems that the older 1900C's had at hot and high airports.
When Mesa and Continental Express operated the C models out of here (elev. 6000') in the summer, they had to limit the loads. As far as I know, once the D models came along, this has not been a factor, even in the summer when it's in the high 90's.

Best roller coaster ride I had was out of Bradley flying into Pearson (Toronto) on a SF340.
I'd swear we were doing 6G pullups and pushovers.
Makes you appreciate a smooth flight.

MESA AIRLINES UPDATE
Fare will be $139, 14 day advance purchase. They will have a morning flight and are discussing the second daily flight from/to Ontario. I strongly suggested a late afternoon or early evening second flight.
Seems common sense to fly back on late Sunday or leave after work on weekdays.
Your input, as discussions are ongoing..

This is a full fare RT price. Taxes additional. All other usual airlines issues apply.

Not bad a $139.00....it usually costs me about $60.00 each way in my F-250 towing a boat + wear and tear!!
Now i could keep the boat there... what about tranportation when i am there??? Cole

Time to get a pad and spare wheels while in town.
BTW, figute 32 cents per mile, so a 320 mile one way x 2+ $200 plus in actual vehicle usage. Of course this changes when additional crew is involved.
But in my case time is money, so flying has been the norm for a year now.

Yeah but that $139 is Per Person and I always have 2-4 people (Wife and two kids). That's now up towards $600 with tax and parking. Plus Ontario is 1/4 of the way there. I think the RTJas's will continue to tow. Put that flight out of Long Beach and make it $89 round trip, I'll reconsider.....

The second time out to Havasu I was on a Citation and that was great. It was not Mesa Airliines. Good Luck I will still drive. It takes me 10 gallons in a new 2003 Honda Accord with 240 HP v6.
