Existing shafts drilled or do you want new? I have new, or you can have some one local drill your existing. J.J. :)

What do you mean about gundrilling the shafts? Is this a procedure for better oiling? What's up?

Lighter weight, slightly stronger as well.

SNOWBOAT gundrilling is nouthing but drilling a hole in the center of a shaft to take weight out, I do not know about making it stronger, there is the idea that it makes another serface there by making it stronger. MY $.02 j.j. :rollside:

Putting a hole in a solid shaft does not really make it stronger, but the strength to weight ratio goes up. For example a 1" shaft with a 1/2" hole has a strength reduction ( torsional and rigidity) of about 6% with a 25% percent weight reduction relative to a solid shaft. If you make that hole 3/4", the strength reduction is about 31% with a weight reduction of 56%. Most of the strength in a shaft is in the outer area.

How the benefits of gundrilling were explained to me:
When a shaft is exposed to torsional movement, the material in the center of the shaft becomes molecularly superheated. With time, the temperature and movement will work-harden the material in the center and will allow it to shear. Drilling removes the material from the center.
Along with weight reduction.
