What was your first trip to "the river"?
It was 1974, I was 11 years old, we had a 1969 Glaspar powered by a Mercury 1000 100 hp clamp on, towed behind a 1964 Ford country squire station wagon. Also along was Fred, A friend of my step dad, and his big block powered V-drive flat. (I have no idea what hull it was.) We stayed for a weekend at Echo, rode from one end of the river to the other over and over, got drug around in an innertube till my arms hurt, and had the crap scared outta me in Freds flat. :D (over and over :D ) It was July, we slept in a tent, had to bail water out of Freds boat the next morning, and generally had the time of my life. I never forgot about that trip.
In 1986 I bought my first boat, a 1971 Marlin tri-hull, powered by an 85 horse Chrysler.
It's been 17 years and three boats since then, now I haunt Havasu, but I still remember that first trip... :)

1973, Stayed at Echo in a 67 camarro as our tent. Back then you didn't need a/c. Mrs 24ROD and myself were only 18, So going to Sundance where the legal drinking age was 19 was a big deal. The people we were there with all had Flats. All they did was leave them tied up all day and not run them. So we vowed to never do that. Every Boat we have had we have run the shit out of it!!!!!!!!!!!

Too young to remember it, it was summer 1964.
I do remeber the late 60's at Katherine's Laning on Lake Mohave. Man that place has grown.
Now it's zoo. All the best things get ruined. oh well. It's still the best place to be.

First river trip snapped the skag off my outdrive and wasted prop, bought new prop same day and wasted it within hours.every time out since the first I seem to find low waters and give the skag a trim and readjust the prop.Still cant get enough of the river though.Love that place. :D

Shoulda bought a jet..... :D :D
My parents never did anything cool so my first trip was with friends back in the 80's. I had just bought a used Bayliner :D :D , 16 foot, with an awesome 85 HP Chrysler outboard...hahahahhahaha You should seen me waxin it... wink
We went to Llaughlin and Mohave. Waited 2 hours to launch at Katherine's. The other river boats next to us on the ramp were so loud I couldn't even hear if that POS was running or not.
Bent the starter shaft later that day and got towed in by the Coasties, and a Seadoo. Man, did that suck. Next day blew the skeg off and a blade off the prop south of AVI. (That's how I learned the water levels were lower in the mornings...LOL)
Now...I have a jet. :D :D

My 1st trip to the River I .....Nevermind that one I don't remember myself,But the 2nd trip I stayed at Echo Lodge back in 1973 I had my 1st Boat which was a 16' with a Johnson 90 we had a long 1st day hitting the Bar's when drinking was only 19.That night I anchored by Boat and the next morning it was gone,The Coast Guard had found it Down River on the Az side,Stripped of the Stereo(8 track),Spare Prop's & Pin's,Life jacket's & Ski's.And wouldn't you know it I broke a Pin the very next day and had to get towed back because I didn't have any Spare Part's.I've been going back ever since only I won't leave my Boat in over night,Now I only have to worry about the Big Boat's Swamping me :) :D They can't steal it like this :( :D

Geeeeeeeeez look at all the old fogies on this thread jawdrop , I was born in 1974 :D . I think my first trip was like in 92. Got to thank the 24Rod family for that. Thanks to them I know there is more water then just at the beach. Plus I got a boat out of the whole deal :) . First season out on the river in my OWN BOAT is coming up.

First trip to Lake Mohave at 6 months old. That was the latter part of 1976 beginning of '77. My parents had their first 22 Schiada with a 351 Ford and Volvo drive. Tom Foolrey's parents own that boat now and my dad has another 22 Schiada with a 454 and Merc. It was my parents and two sisters in our old '22 and we camped. In 1980 folks bought a houseboat and moored it at Mohave in Catherine's Landing. I have boated most of my life at Lake Mohave and now my folks own a home in Boulder City, Nevada so it looks like Mead is going to be the place when I get a bigger boat down the line. Their houseboat is for sale if anyone is looking.

Dad bought a metalflake green jet boat summer 1972 (I was 7) and we started going to MacIntyre Park almost every weekend. We'd either hang out in a big lagoon that was a few miles upstream or sometimes we'd go downstream and find a sandbar. Used to stay at the Best Western Tropics and have dinner at Don Julian's on Saturday nights. Those were some fun times...

Sad thing is I haven't been back to the river with any of my own boats since getting back into boating 8 yrs ago. I've been sticking to the lakes and now the Magic might be a little big for Bythe. What are the biggest boats you see there now? I know they run some big stuff at Parker but as I recall Blythe can be shallow and narrow in spots.

Don't even think about it. blythe is way to shallow for your boat and inconsistent. You gotta have a jet or know the river super well. Never really seen anything over a 21-22 there. An occassional big boat will surface but they are brave.

1978ish...stayed at the Winner Circle hotel, right next to Winner Circle Restaurant (now Paradise)...My dad had a 73 Southwind (Green/Teal Metal Flake)with 454BBC...we had a blast...after that trip we started to go down on a regular basis and stayed at Echo in the late 70's until the black-balled us...
We brought my RM80 once, and ripped around the park...after that trip, we would call for reservation, they would say yeah we have an opening, your name.....Oh, I am sorry after checking we are booked...after that we started going to Havasu.

Back To Havasu

You want to talk old fogie...my first trip to Havasu was in 1959 to race a Yellow-Jacket Boat. I was 13 and the Western Outboard Association hosted a 100 mile marathon Thanksgiving weekend at the Site Six (which consisted of a launch ramp, campsite, and general store). Lake Havasu City didn't come into existence until several years later. After leading the race for the first 90 miles, fuel pressure problems surfaced and cause a third place finish. Still have the trophy.

1st trip in 1999, all the boys from work went to unltd races! Great time, cops pulled us over on the way to Lauglin for no tail lights. Luckly I had sobered up by that time! Lost all of my money that night & had to bum some $ from co-workers when we hit the strip joint on the way home.
Cant wait to go back this year with the new boat.

July of 71(the family had bought a 18' Kona w/a 455olds which we still have), but I wasn't born until Aug of 71. We had a house on the river in Parker, some might remember the old bar next to the buckskin fire dept half way down the river we were right next to it. Been going ever since, although now it's to Havasu.
