Just wandering how the river channel is from the AVI casino south to Topock marina? I have only been to Havasu, and Topock marina once with my boat once. So this time were staying at the AVI because of the boat ramp.
Were coming from Tulsa to the Colo River on 9/2/02 for a week. Running a 24' RED concord named "RED HOT".

depending on the water level you should have no problem, there are only couple spots to watch out for when the water is low other than that you will have no troubles

tow your ride up to Lake Mojave for a day, you won't be disappointed!

The best way of finding out if the water depths will be in good shape is to contact www.coloradoriverinfo.com (http://www.coloradoriverinfo.com) - click needles weather and pan down to colorado river flows. Anything over about 13,500 or greater are decent flows. Please keep in mind these are peak flows that usually occur in the afternoon. Early in the morning the river at this time of year will be low. Spring into summer no problem. Late summer into fall, be careful.
BTW from Needles bridge, you good to go almost all the time

From my limited experience, I'd say the spookiest stretch would be between the Avi and Needles. On a 14000 weekend there were still some really shallow spots in that stretch around 11:30AM. You could probably float through with a jet no problem, but I'd still be careful. Other than that its a nice stretch of river. About 35 miles from Avi to the Sandbar so probably about 27 or so miles from the Avi to Topoc.
Have fun,
Chris

I was just there two weeks ago. You'll have no problems in the afternoon. I'm not sure about the morning. I was on the water about 6:30 am and there were some pretty shallow spots. I didn't have any problems, but I have an 18' jet boat. The stretch from AVI to Topac is very nice. I made that run twice a day. Best of luck to ya.

I have to disagree. The water is extremely low in the mornings. You can practically walk across the river. If you wait till about noon when the water comes up you shouldn't have a problem. There are still a couple spots to look out for though. If I remember right stay to the Arizona side of the river as much as you can. But once you get past Needles it is smooth sailing. We stay at the Avi twice a year for a week at a time and with the new boat we tow down to needles and put in at the marina. It is only a 20 minute drive and it is worth not having to worry about water depth.
KC is right. Head up to Mojave for a day. There are some great beaches to hang out at. But if it is windy be ready for the swells.

I tried to go up river from the Sand Bar a month or so ago, and all was well until the ENRON pipeline area, which I knew about. I slowed down, trimmed up and slowly made it through. (lots of logs and rocks) Depth gage showed about 8-10 feet after I cleared the area so I throttled up again. Then, something looked funny ahead. This ski boat did a 180 after the wakeboarder fell and I couldn't tell if it was his wake or something else. I slowed down as the hair stood up on my neck, then quickly trimmed up, crash idle, reverse.....too close for comfort. Just about ran over this rocky shallow spot. Cleared than one only to find another 1/4 mile up. I grew weary and went back to the sand bar.

The best thing would be to float downriver for a few miles from the bridge at Avi and check out the level, it's a nice way to enjoy the river too....I agree with 25Elmn8r the California side has quite a few submerged trees, branches etc so try to stay to the Arizona side..I was in Needles all weekend and there were plenty of big boats between Needles and Topock so that area is no problem. Have fun.
