View Full Version : Hijacked at Lake Mojave

A warning...
19 years I have been going to bullhead up to Lake Mojave with my family and such... gone to just about every spot from there down to Hidden Shores at one time or another...with regular visits to the Fishers/Picacho area. Never worried about hoodlums and vandals bothering or even hijacking our stuff... a jackass or two every now and again who gets drunk and wants to fight... but no thievery... it's an unwritten law (actually theft is a law... but you get the picture)... or just plain common courtesy... you don't mess with other boaters stuff... especially at the river.
This weekend my and three other families had their stuff (ez-ups... chairs... innertubes... anchors... kids water toys... etc...) stolen from 83 Dollar Cove... by a boatload of dykes. We had seen them loading up some of the stuff that later we found out wasn't theirs... but one of the other families that wasn't on the water on Friday. (They had been using it all day and when we were leavingÂ… well naturally they would be loading up THEIR stuff too when they were going to leaveÂ… right?) When we returned on Saturday...our stuff... along with the other two families we were hanging out with stuff was gone...that's about the time when the third family asked if we'd seen who took their stuff... (That was YOUR stuff?)
Absolutely f'ing sucked.
The boat name was "Caught Ya Lookin'" white with blue flames.
it was loaded with dykes... not lesbians... but pseudo-men... stand while peeing... and out cuss a sailor type dykes...
Keep an eye out... hopefully this is just a load of dirtbags... very few and very far between and not some sort of trend where the a-holes are taking over the water. I hate to see more people loose their stuff because scum decided that you donÂ’t need it and they deserve it.
Other than that... arrrr... "incident"...
Mojave rocked! Weather was nice and... uh... hot... but the water was nice... clean clear and cool as always. A bit choppy for my 19' cal performance gullwing during the day... but smoothed out enough later that speed runs in the larger coves around princess cove were possible without getting beat to hell. Of course the old man's 21' Schiada rode like a caddy in the rough... and the ride to Cottonwood in it was great. Not to overly crowded... but a bit more that I would have expected on a non-holiday weekend.

Hey Man that sucks big time! I will be up there in that area possibly on the weekend of the first, wadda ya want me ta do to them, if I see them? There is absolutley no value in used EZ up, kids toys, etc...What losers.
Hey maybe I can get a Wateroach to do a drive by "splash" on them and he'll F@#k up and T-Bone him!!! That would be great, I'll post the pictures!!! :D

That is not cool, unfortuantly we have people out there that will take advantage of these situations. :o
Glad the rest of your weekend was fun

To me it sounds as if you left your things on the beach overnight?? Is this the case?
Not that I think its ok for someone to swipe it but I find it inconsiderate of some who mark their beaches for the weekend by leaving their stuff there. More frustrating when you take a less desirable beach nearby and the crap sits all day without anyone every coming to claim it. (Geez, we could have enjoyed that nice sandy beach if we'd known nobody was gonna use it all day)
It BS that your stuff was taken and I feel for ya but if you indeed did leave it there then its partly your fault too. Pack it in, pack it out daily.

Stealing other peoples stuff is wrong regardless but as someone who is out on the lake a lot I see the stuff on the beach for days at a time and never see anybody. It makes me think some people come out there and leave there stuff out all summer long. Some of the best beach areas are taken when it is obvious that somebody is trying to save an area. That line about pack it in and pack it out daily I totally agree with. That makes all of this a non issue doesn't it?

yeah, if you leave your shit out there all night what do you expect?
I agree that taking something that is not yours is wrong no matter what. But man O man, get a clue. This is 2003.

2003 or not, getting a beach for the weekend is the way it has always been. Kind of like getting a boat slip, first one there gets it. I do agree with the part that it sucks that people who go out there every weekend keep there stuff there all the time, If you know you are not coming back out then you should take you stuff in. What about the people who get a boat slip and don't use it and you have to pull you boat out everynight ? Fortunately, In the almost 20 years that I have been going here I have not had any problems with my stuff and I am sorry to hear that it happened to you JB. I am going out there next week and will be looking for a beach and keeping my eyes out for that boat.

Leaving your stuff on the beach at Mojave overnight is not unusual - but I knew it would just be a matter of time until stuff started to get legs (stolen). This also applies to leaving the keys in your boat at a Marina, especially Katherines. We used to not think about it twice, but now, I never leave the keys and actually have added additional disabling to keep the people looking for something quick to keep moving.
I think the "Keeping the honest people honest" is the way to think about anywhere you go these days. The real thieves will steal your stuff if they really want it.
By the way, anyone want to buy a couple of EZ-UP's or chairs cheap? (J/King!!!)

These days, if you are going to leave your stuff overnight, you have to expect the worst possible scenario. The last time my family did this was 1983 on Lake San Antonio. When it comes to respect for property, those days passed long ago. My family will never leave our camp unprotected anymore, we always pack it up now.

2003 or not, getting a beach for the weekend is the way it has always been. I disagree with that. Not at Havasu anyway. I have been going there since '75. My family and all our friends always packed it in at the end of the day. Always. I don't recall seeing much in the way of abandoned equipment along the shores either. Let me ask you a question. What entitles you or anyone else to a public beach for an entire weekend?
rccobra:
What about the people who get a boat slip and don't use it and you have to pull you boat out everynight? They paid for it. Most likely, they had to reserve it well ahead of time. Perhaps they even had to pay for "dead days" to make sure it was available on the days they need it. Beaches are public, not private.
Bottom line ..... it is common courtesy to allow other people the opportunity to use the public beaches. If it is that important to you to get the best beach for the day, get your a** up early and go get it. That is fair. While it is wrong to steal anything, I have no sympathy in this situation "if" in fact the equipment was left on the beach over night.

My Boating Brother,
That is the worst, unfriendliest stretch of river, and a close second is the stretch in front of the Casinos.
Ahh Hell,, they're tied for the worst.
If you don't get ripped of in the boat parking, they'll get your campsite, or you'll get hit by a PWC, or the LEOS will stop you,, or drunks will start trouble,, ect ect,,,
If you watch COPS TV show when they go to Laughlin/Bullhead,,, the place is swarming with A holes.
So bad, I understand that the PD's don't want the TV show COPS to come anymore for the bad publicity it generates.
