I was at the Boat Show today and buzzed by Nordic and read some of their claims on performance. 21ft with a 496HO that weighed 3000lbs that was capable of 90+. It seemed a little outrageous but i don't know anything about Nordics. Anybody own a Nordic that has been gps verfied.

Sounds fast to me!!! One thing i've learned is take off about 6-8 miles an hour from what the dealer says it will do!!!

I think their claim is that it would run north of 90mph on HP500 power. At the boat show it had a procharger on the motor.
I aint buying the 90mph + claim with stock HP500 power.

Oh ya everbody exagerates the top speed, but what they were saying was an outright lie. I have been in a 21 footer with the 496HO and it did 76 with a gps and 26 pitch prop that had some work done on it. Other than that all the other manufacturers were cool to talk to.

FYI---The new Nordic 21'(The Blaze), not to be confused with the older 22' Sprint, with 500 EFI, ITS, IMCO lower unit does run in the low 90's. Lonnie Fluent at Nordic uses this set up for ski racing and is very, very competitive.

Also, keep in mind that the 21 that they use for ski racing has no interior in it, just two seats for the driver and observer...Nice looking boat I thought..

If it's a race boat with an HP500 then that would make sense. I'm not bashing Nordic in fact I really thought their boats were some of the better looking ones at the show. It's just that some of the manufactures that I have talk to in the past all told me what I wanted to here. Then I find out latter that it was pure B.S.

There was a one-page blip on the Blaze in (bikini issue I think) ***boat. Nice looking boat with over-the-transome exhaust and HP500. Pretty sure it stated 90+ and used for ski racing.

Its the motor drive combo that pushes 90+. Yes, it is true!

Their claim is pretty acurate. In fact, it's a bit understated. I have a Nordic 25 Rage with a 496 MAG...non HO and I have a 26 labbed prop and I can do well over 70 all day long every day of the year. My top GPS speed was last April at 79.2.
pig_flyi Did you see that, I just saw a pig fly...
I'm in Havasu nearly every weekend from mid March to mid October. I'd be happy to demonstrate for anyone who'd like a ride.

pig_flyi Id like to see that 25' push to 79 MPH with a stock 496 mag..that thing only has 375HP, no way bro

I agree. Thats awefully hot numbers for a base stock 496

The only boat Ive seen that can touch that speed with a stock 496 mag (Im sure there are more) is the cougar 22' tunnel that did 80. I guess thats a comparible hull to the Nordic 25' deep V...not
Im not trying to bash on your verified GPS speed, It just seems really high. RD, dont you have a Nordic. What engine do you have? What speed?

Is it possible that the 496 (for some reason) may come from the factory with more than 375hp? The last time I was at the river there was a guy with a brand new (I think) Essex. His claim was that he was spinning a 30 pitch on the stock motor because the 496 had alot more power than stock for some reason. We didnt talk MPH but I find it hard to believe that thing could spin a 30. Maybe I just dont know what the hell Im talking about. I was seeing pretty cross eyed at the time..maybe it was a 03 :D

Hey rivertime69 I'd like to see that for myself. A 25fter with 496 Mag that did 79.6 on a gps, I like to see that one. Hey maybe we can race? :D

The HO has 425HP and Im spinning a 23P Rev-4 prop about 5100rpm in a 25 Shockwave Tremor. So far the best I've seen is 70.4mph on gps with temps in the upper 60's and about 6" chop. The motor barely has 20 hours so I'm hoping for another MPH or two out of it. But based on the size and weight of the 25 Tremor, I'm pretty damn happy with the top end numbers.
From what I've read about Merc motors is they think a 10% variance in horsepower is acceptable! 10% of 425 is 42hp! So they say that a variance between 383hp to 467HP is acceptable? I think my particular motor is right about where the published numbers are based on the RPM readings Im getting. But 10% of a good base number makes a difference! HOWEVER, 8-10mph out of a 10% variance is a bit of a stretch in my opinion
I don't doubt the Nordic is probably a bit faster with equal power because the Shockwave is significantly larger and heavier than the Nordic Rage. The Rage also has a very aggressive step bottom while the Shockwave is pretty mild in comparision.

Has the boat been layed up light for racing?
What modifications have been done to the motor and outdrive>
What is the x setting on the installation of the engine and drive?
Come on 90 MPH out of a stock package 21 foot v bottom. There is no way it will pull a 30P prop with the stock package.
