Changing the oil and filter for the first time in the new old Carrera.
I use synthetic in my cars and trucks but unsure about the BBC.
What do you guys like?

I've tried a couple of different oils and a straight 40w seems to work best for me. I first went with Valvoline 20-50 but after a fairly hard run the engine would lose some pressure. The interesting thing is a friend of mine with a very similar engine had the same exact thing happen to his bbc.
Going back to straight 40w, no loss in pressure after a hard run at all.
There are quite a few who swear by the synthetics but I haven't tried one yet, probably this coming oil change.

I use Royal Purple synthetic, 20W-50. That, combined with an oil cooler, keeps pressure up very very well for me.

Ran Castrol Syntech 10w-50 all last summer. Ran 55psi cold, 55psi hot WOT, for miles. 23 psi idle hot, immediately up over 40psi tho by 1800RPM hot. No pressure loss problems at all. Only running 5 qts of it thru a Fram to boot (K&N Gold this year, 2-qt one).

I love Syntech. Run it hard in my M5.
Heck maybe I'll just feed the old big block some too. :)

Good ole Castrol gtx 20w-50
I'M WITH YA, IF ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR JOHN FORCE ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!!I LIKE THE STRAIGHT 30W THOUGH, SEEMS TO GIVE MORE CONSISTENT PRESSURE THAN THE MULTI GRADE STUFF.

valvoline straight 50 weight racing, but it depends on clearances. I like my motor loose. Budlight

Valvoline Racing VR1 40 wt.
Castrol 20-50 turned into water after a hard looong run and psi went down, didn't leave me with that warm fuzzy feeling. :220v:
I'm know several racers that run Mobil-1 5w30 (for less drag)... also their clearances are set up for it and...it's only for 1/4 mile at a time.
