I don't have a clue as to why this happened, but it did. Snapped off right in front of the thrust bearing. I think it just snapped and when I had to run it, it toasted the bearings.

It snapped in a way that it would still turn as one unit, but a little sloppy. That WAS a Nodular crank too. I still don't know what I'm going to do yet.

I still don't know what I'm going to do yet. I'm thinking there could have been a "Wave Factor" involved...crazy glue the puppy together and lets go boating....where's the "Frost Ball" Meet at?

Great Pics. Dam. Perhaps you lost one of the mains, or the crank was bent and finally just worried the crank until it broke.
The bearing faces look dark and splotchy. Looks like water maybe. Of course with the crank that way you couldnt have had oil pressure so perhaps an analysis after the fact aint so good.

The gauges were all looking great across the board. No vibration what-so-ever and actually did have 15lbs at idle (right after the SNAP) and was rising as I got it up to around 1500rpm. I'm sure it was losing pressure as the bearing material was failing. The pitting you see in most of the bearings is actually copper carried over from the damaged ones and getting ground into the babbit. I can scrape off the flakes.
I had to start it back up since I kept drifting into the weeds and rocks. Since I knew something was toasted, the final drive to the dock was going to have to be. I cringed the whole time. cry
