this part of a news story on the hurricane caught my eye...
Metro chief executive Richard White said officials did not want to "risk having customers get blown in front of trains or onto the electrified tracks." White said they also were concerned about people at bus stops being blown in front of vehicles or being hit by flying objects

I leave Saturday for Charlotte. Coming back Wednesday. I hope my conference gets cancelled! Amazing - I just received this email:
All Clear: Conference Not Affected by Weather
Everyone planning to attend the Charlotte/Mecklenburg County conference should proceed as planned. Advance team staff members in Charlotte report partly cloudy skies, with showers expected on Friday. The weekend forecast is for partly cloudy to sunny weather, and termperatures in the low 80's. All conference events will go forward as planned. Members who think they may be delayed in their arrival should contact their conference hotels as soon as possible to guarantee their reservation and avoid charges if a day is missed.
Riiiggghhhttt!

Here's a quote from the LA Times:
One police chief issued a blunt warning Wednesday to beach-dwelling die-hards. "We are asking citizens who choose to stay in the mandatory evacuation area that, when contacted by a police officer, they will need to provide next of kin," said Virginia Beach Police Chief Alfred "Jake" Jacocks. "We'll ask them to use a permanent Magic Marker to write their names on their forearms so we can identify them."
That is pretty freaky. Can you imaging having to do that to your kids' forearms?

These images from the NOAA and news / weather sites are great. However, I would be interested in seeing a live shot from space. Anyone have a URL of a "space cam"??

Nice space shot. How is North Carolina doing? They may be getting battered at this moment.? With this kind of disaster, it would be great to see a live web-cam from the East coast... hey wait a minute... google.

This is what I mean:
Huri-cam shot (http://hurricanetrack.com/hurrmap/webcam.html)
Looks like the eye has already passed Atlantic Beach, N.C.
Here is a site (http://hurricanetrack.com/isabel2003.html) which gets updated frequently with hurricane Isabel details.

With this kind of disaster, it would be great to see a live web-cam from the East coast... hey wait a minute... google. Trees down/power out to 600,000+ last I heard. Lines and lines of power co. support vehicles were streaming down the interstates today headed east to the Coast. Inlaws are just north of Raleigh and have had high winds/heavy rain/power out/trees down etc. Uncle's place in Richmond is getting pounded this evening. There's alot of folks from there hanging out in this area- met one girl from Norfolk who didn't want to ride it out, and headed this way.
The wind's still up here, but the air was so dry that the rain bands had a tough time making it to the ground much past I-77. Was in GSO (Greensboro) today at noon, blowin' like crazy there.
Sorry for the rambling...
DaveA
PS Hey Summerlove- what kind of conference you got goin' on in Charlotte?? Me & Stump are just north of town up on Lake Norman...Drop us a PM.
