My current amp for my subs cuts out when ther volume is turned up. Any recommendations on a goos amp to power 2 12' Sony XSL-1246 Subs XSL-1246 (http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?CATEGORY=Subwoofers&MD=XS-L1246) I am using a Sony amp now, XM-2150GSX (http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?CATEGORY=Amp/EQ&MD=XM-2150GSX). It is wired Parallel. Will switching it to serial give me more volume?
thanks for the help

Maybe the amp is geting too hot and clipping due to overheating. Or maybe it's damaged. Or maybe you need a cooling fan. Or, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
The man to ask would be ROZ :D
Glad I could be of help!

It also might be that the amp is not getting enough volts. Are your batteries in good shape? Is your alternator functioning properly?
Series wiring will make the system quieter but more stable and help the amp run cooler

Andy DAMN IT! I hate when this happens

I also think it is probably the power wire or the fact that the amp is overheating. For that application I would run atleast four guage power wire with good gold connectors, also you might want to invest in a cap, a full ferit should work fine. Secondly make sure your amp is getting air circulating around it, you should probably mount a small fan, depending on the location of the amp, to get air flowing around it

Well...locogringo, RC, and Miss RacingRascal have all given you great advice...
Props to Miss RR for knowing stereo stuff (and relating it to engines)..
I'll throw my (non-expert) 2 cents in...I don't think that amp is rated for a 2 ohm mono load (2-4 ohm subs in parallel), so you are probably overburdening the power supply.
If you just wire the subs to each channel, the subs will get 150 watts each...but they won't cut out.
If your stuck on that Sony stuff, I would change to the class D Sub amp (http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?CATEGORY=Amp/EQ&MD=XM-1600GXD) for 300 watts per sub, and no overheating or voltage problems.
If you want to move out of the 90's...Roz can hook you up with a different brand.
Just my humble opinion.

I think HH has hit it on the nose. That amp is only good to 2ohms in stereo mode and 4ohms when wired in to a mono mode.
Change the wiring configuration to see if it solves the problem.

I know a little about this subject, so here goes. You are clipping. Which means that since you are wired in parallel you are dropping the omhs from 4 to probably 2 which is an extreme strain on your amp try wiring them in series which should be a little less harmful to your amp. Check out the link I provided you as well for more answers..
