Alright.Im going on a 2 day trip out of Oceanside on a 50ft boat. Not to sure where we are headed but down towards the Mexican boarder maybe.Theres only 10 of us going on this boat,so Im doubting any pros will be there to help me out.Just 9 other drunk friends!Ive been out on a single day trip out of San Pedro once, but it was a long time ago.I have no clue on what I will need, besides alot of cash for food and beer.So some ideas and help on what I need for gear would be cool.Give me some ideas of the "Must Haves" and whats nice to have.Thanks..........JR

JRoocket,
The last one of those trips I went on, I kicked everyones ass with a simple setup. Just a rod reel(fresh or salt no BFD) and what ever bait they had to offer on board.
They usually don't allow Ice chests, so bring lots of cash for brew at the boats bar..
Pocket full of cash, simple rod and reel, X tra hooks and a knife, change of cloths, something to hose your mouth out with like a tooth brush,,, keep it simple.
Oh yea,, a sweatshirt,,, you're gonna need a sweatshirt,,
Good luck,, have fun,,,

Check with Hot Diggity Dog, he does those trips. Use 5 Star Fish Processing when you get back.

Change of clothes? I never thought of that.Good idea.I was thinking it might get cold at night out there but wasnt sure.100 miles out on a 50ft boat sounds questionable to me but I guess its done all the time.Well, except maybe the Minow! LOL
Great ideas so far, anybody else got some info for me.2 of the guys are good friends of mine but I dont know the other 7.Maybe a carry on base ball bat? LMAO :D

Like what TPC said simple stuff will do.But a decent rod and reel is a must(3 is better (different line sizes)).When i go on overnighters it is mainly bait fishing so a few hooks and a few small weights are needed becuase most of the fish will bite near the surface (this time of year)
Beer is usually cheap on boats compard to a river bar. Also sea sickness pills if you are one who gets sick.
If you need an extra rod pm me. i have a bit of deep sea stuff that has been unused lately due to time restraints

Thanks 77
What size hooks,lb line and weights should I be using?I bought a cheap rod reel combo with some 20lb test put on it.Ive got some #2 bait hooks and 1oz and 2oz weights but not sure if they will do the job.

Call whoever it is that runs the deal, they should know everything.
Did a one day trip once, listened to their advice, caught more fish by far than anyone else on the boat.
Have fun!

Right now you will want to take a 30 #set up also for the tuna(blue fin yellow fin). You will probably want to get some 1/0-3/0 hooks too as well as 1/8-1/4 oz sliding sinkers. You will most likely be flylining(just put the bait fish on your hook with no wait and let it swim til eaten). The boat should have troll gear avail. Most landings have a small tackle dept so the day you depart you can also check with the boat captian to see what is needed at the time but it really isnt all that much maybe 20 bucks(hooks, sinkers, small misc others).I have alot of jigs and stuff as well as trolling gear but mainly catch with the live bait on overnight trips.

the 20#set up is a must so take it too. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

LMAO When I went on the Prowler (Fishermans Landing in San Diego) I used the Trans-Dermal patch that goes behind your ear for sea-sickness and I never got sick........even after drinking all those Budweisers from the galley. :)

Another good idea is some gloves. It does tend to get reallllllll cold out there on the ocean, and when your hands are cold it becomes harder to get the bait on the hook and real in good. You can either get the rubber ones like for doing dishes so that you can put them in the bait tub, or the cloth ones (but then you have to keep putting them on and taking them off). Also, a hood or hat to keep you warm. Good luck with it, let us know whats for dinner when you get home.

Does it work better than the pills? When I went on the one day trip,I drank a fair share and never got sick but I'm thinking this time will be different!
